hey guys i was wondering if you could help me my car is an 04 TL LS with 90,000 ks on the clock, the problem is whenever the car is dead cold starting in the morning ans i rev it under light throttle out of gear the car seems to hesitate then climb to 2000rpm misfire really badly sometimes almost like a cylinder has stopped firing then around 2300rpm it clears up, it's really strange the car doesn't seem to have any issues whilst in gear driving along or when warm.

now i have read other threads about misfires and their causes, all of the spark plugs where changed at 80,000 to platinums because i was bored, the distributor rotor and cap are also new but the leads are unchanged.

There also seems to be some kind of leak around where the EGR pipe connects to the inlet manifold, i'm not sure if what i'm feeling is a vac leak or just exhaust gasses escaping, i'll try sealing it up but i'm not sure if it's the source of my problem.

Evoscan doesn't bring up any error codes or odd sensor values either, is there anything else i should check using it?

Can you guys think of anything else it may be, the car has always been a little funny when cold since i bought it with 50,000 on the clock but i think it's getting worse and i know our cars are a little tempermental when cold but a cylinder saying no screw you i'm not working at 2000 rpm when cold is not normal.

Any help is much appreciated.

it could be a small vacuum leak mate - if the EGR connections are leaking going into the inlet manifold i'd look at fixing that first

EGR will be an exhaust leak if it is the pipe where it joins on the manifold, you should not seal it but use the proper stainless gasket that may have dropped when you took the upper manifold off

You could do the leads as they are not expensive but also check your TPS and also MAF, I have had a few do this with faulty MAF sensors, they are the most touchy part of the whole system

Also, dont rule out a stick valve, have had this numerous times, if it does this EVERY time the engine is cold, do a comp test cold and see what you come up with although having said that one would think this would also cause a bad cold idle as well
