I am wondering if anybody else has noticed the following, or is there something wrong with our climate control? This is the second winter we have had the car and I can't remember it doing this last year.

When starting out on a cold morning (say 3-5 degrees) with everything on auto and the temp on 22, the air is diverted mostly to the windscreen vents and it makes a hell of a racket. The auto setting seems to put the air onto the "feet" position as manually turning the control to the the feet position results in the same air flow pattern. There is some air diverted into the footwells but most comes out the windscreen vents with lots of noise. Is this normal?

I can understand thr system not blowing air out the dash vents until the engine has warmed up but I just can't remember it making such a racket last winter.

Cheers,

Steve

Since the onset of cold mornings the creaking of the vent valves has returned. Was told it is normal. Also on auto most air is diverted to windscreen as shown on the display.

Is it just noisy cos interior Fan is automatically-set to High setting? Or is it an unusually noisy fan, as if leaves etc are stuck in it?

I assume the ambient temp being cool the "auto" setting goes to Windscreen demist (hence high fan and screen deflection) for a while - are you sure the "demist/front/screen" button isn't engaged as well as the "Auto" function?

Beyond these suggetsions I cannot offer more help - I am time-warped in the TJ/KJ era!!

I never use climate control (i.e. Auto settings) any more. It always blows too hot or too cold or too fast or too slow or in the wrong places for my liking. I just use manual settings for everything.

I notice two things though.

Even on low fan speed setting the demister is very noisy. Leave the fan speed the same and switch to face vents for example and the noise drops a lot. It seems that the demister setting, even on manual, automatically bumps up the fan speed a lot.

Most times but not every time the heater doesn't seem to work unless I turn the temperature dial to at least 25. If I set it at say 22 (when the interior of the car is quite cold, say 6 or 8), little or no heat comes through for ages, until I twist it past 25. And then it goes nutso and tries to cook me! Wierd.

I found a fix

above the temp dial is another dial

turn it to the right alot and ROCK OUT to STEEL PANTHER or any other rocking band!!!

if you want to hear creaks get in a VE

I had another fiddle with the controls. I think the main issue is the temp difference in the morning. We have had frosts and when the temp is on 22 it blasts the air out to try and warm the cabin up as quickly as possible (obviously after a couple of minutes to allow the engine to warm). I am pretty sure ours has a leaf or something else in the vents and this has made it noisier than usual. I was worried we had another warranty battle on our hands.............

Ours has the creak when you first start up i the cold - doesn't worry me. I agree, my sister's 2009 VE Sportswagan has more noises despite only having 30k - man it hunts through the gears - much less usuable torque than the 380. No thanks
