is there either a filter on the trans body, or inside the trans sump?
i downloaded the service manual from here (thanks) and couldnt find any mention of changing a filter.
the trans was serviced and flushed 40k ago, and the fluid still looks and smells fine, but i'd like to do a filter replacement soonish.
thanks.

if you got a tj it in internal filter so you dont need to change it untill you need a new gearbox

surely the filter will still eventually become blocked? my falcon and discovery each needed their filters changed after a while.
thanks for the info though.

unless you want to pull your gearbox apart you can do it

oh, that's a bit annoying. so it's not just sitting inside the pan, like my other cars. oh well.

No, not just inside the pan, it is a total overhaul proceedure to get to the filter, is a really stupid idea to be honest but hey, what can one do
The early boxes until about mid TH had external screw on filters, you can see on the later boxes where the casting is there for it still but was never used
