So, i've recently moved to launceston, well like a few months back. And its been getting quite chilly down here, friday night i noticed that my fuel gauge is stuck on E, i know i have fuel, and the digital tells me i still have about 1/2 a tank.
Any quick fixes for this?
Cheers,
Shaun

Will most likely be your fuel sender unit - common problem of them going kaput. The only fix is a replacement...not sure how hard the job is, but from memory it isnt too hard!

seems odd, the car seems to still know how many km's i have left in the tank, and seems accurate based on usage so far, hmm

Why does it seem odd? Its two different ways of measuring fuel in the tank, one of them is accurate and the other has stuffed up.

But wouldnt they both use the same sender unit?

Nah mate the digital takes a reading when you fill up and then bases the rest on your fuel economy and km's traveled IIRC

When my sender died the trip computer lost the ability to determine km to empty as it seemed to rely on the reading from the sender unit.. As soon as I replaced the sender the computer regained its DTE.
Unsure as to how the computer can determine how much fuel you put in as not everyone fills their tank to full every time!

i think the computer just gets a reading of how full the tank is at any given point and calculates from there the DTE, using the other data it has available.
is there a fuse, or something for the actual guage? could try taking the cluster out, giving it a little tap and re-install it. if it is stuck, it may free it up again.

i filled it up friday arvo, and it went back up, then went back down, then went half way, now its sitting on E again. something dodgy in the cluster maybe?

Go and see Don at the United Servo at Newnham and tell him Greg sent you. He's my father in law and a very good auto sparky and mechanic. If there is something there, he'll find it!
Cheers, Greg.
