View Full Version : TP Magna fuel comes into carby after motor switched off after 50km trip

Finally got my sons Magna going again and going well after spending about $230 on it mainly
on carb including vaccuum hoses and gasket set. I have fitted a new secondary diaphragm which
helped. After driving about 50km round trip I looked inside carby and it was spitting out a small amount
of petrol into carby from the accelerator pump and somewhere else I think. This car used to have a problem starting when hot and it seemed as it was flooding as it would finally start after cranking over many times with the accelerator down. The vent valve has some small pin holes in the membrane on the end of the long pin could this cause this problem? I am going to replace it anyway. Just wondered if someone may have come across this problem before or knows more about how it works than I do.
Also the motor seems to get extremely hot on rocker cover and top of radiator not sure if this is until the thermostat opens. The temperature guage only goes to a bit blow half way. Maybe the motor is running hotter than it should be causing the fuel to vaporize and leak out.
Thanks, Barry

Hi Barry,

How did you stop the charcoal granules getting into the carby? The reason I ask is that if you did so by blocking off the hoses between the charcoal canister and the carby, the fuel tank may be building up pressure while the engine is running. Then, when you stop the engine, the pressure in the tank forces fuel into the carby, flooding it.

Just under half way on the temperature gauge is about normal. Is the heat shield still fitted to the exhaust manifold or has it been removed?

PS. I will send you a PM (private message)

Yes I did disconnect the canister hose for now
The heat shield has been removed and extractors fitted. The air injection valve
has been removed too assuming it had one before we got it.
Thanks

Maybe the heat is just being radiated from the extractors and exhaust manifold. Mine still has the heat shield and the rocker cover does not get overly hot.
