Hey guys.
Bought some new brake discs the other day, and when to put them on... basically I cant undo the two bolts holding the caliper on.... they are in the worst spot ever, and my tools are sort of limited. I have the car booked in to get them done wednesday week but I really dont wanna fork over $100 for something I can do myself.

Anyway, does anybody have any techniques for getting these bolts off?
Or, alternatively, if somebody wants to help me out for an hour or two one day they can earn themselves some moolah :D
I have interlinked two spanners for torque, and this was not enough even with some wd40. Perhaps I need a long long piece of pipe? iunno.
Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

You need a 14mm 6 point socket and a breaker bar. Spanner wont undo that bolt.

you sure you have twin pots?

What we did (me and my mate) was to put a rag over the spanner head and bash it with a hammer.......seemed to work! Obviously making sure the spanner was on properly...didnt wanna rip the head of the bolt...

That will work aswell but one wrong hit and if it slides off very good chance you can start to round the bolt.

of course, I have done this before where it WOULD NOT come off no matter what we tried. ended up having to get drilled out at a brake specialist as it was THAT stuck in there.

Yeah man! Apparently they are stock with ABS fitted 2nd gens? iunno.
But yeah - I should get a breaker bar. hopefully they arent priced to badly. The only problem is the fact that there is no room behind the wheel arch for using it... perhaps getting the car on jack stands and turning to full lock either way???

Ah yes. Yes it has them.

lol how are you trying to break the bolt? Yeah dude you need it on stands to move the caliper towards you more. breaker bar is about $30, invaluable tool when working on old cars

Also make sure you are twisting the right way to undo it!!! I made the mistake of tightening a bolt instead of loosening..... No damage though luckily.....

Yeah - I might have to go get one. If it works then I would have no need to go to the mechanics as that is all it is going in for, and new trans oil (which I can do)....
previously I was just trying to break it with two spanners interlocked and wd-40.... tapping it with a hammer and trying to force it down with my hand..... if I were to put it on stands and turn to full lock so the caliper is towards me, would I be able to fit the breaker bar in there without it being in wheel arch??

ahah yeah I have done that once or twice - but luckily realised it before pushing too hard. nowadays I double check before trying it :P

How your doing it now I have no idea, but sounds very crampt and uncomfortable. If your changing disc's the wheels have to come off anyway..
Remember, righty tighty, lefty loosy

oh - the wheel was off... its just I left the steering straight so the bolts were directly behind the disc... I was thinking if I turned the wheel while the front is on stands I would have a good angle? not sure

Yeah you will, have both wheels off the ground and turn the steering wheel for a better attack angle, nothing to it!

Awesome! I will have a go hopefully tomorrow after hours :) I will get the rp7 out and a small breaker bar I already have, apply the rp7 a few times and be patient with it.
Cheers for the help!
