Hey guys,
I bought a second hand manga sports 1999, 3.5L, 14W KM, it's very cool and I like it very much. But it consumes like 20L for every 100kms. I used $50 on fuel and only got 200 kms. That's like $25/100km. There's some white smoke from Exhaust Pipe. Can anyone tell the what the problem with this car? Thanks in advance :) My main driving is from my house to supermarket or train station. That's like a 8 mins driving.

There could be something wrong with your ECU. The engine could also possibly need a rebuilt. I am not 100% on either of these, just wait for some other responces. I remember our old 1996 holden VS commodore we used to have guzzled the petrol and black smoke came from the exhaust when you put the pedal to the floor. We found out that a wire came loose on the ecu which was making one side of the engine run rich. We used to get about 330km out of a tank before we fixed it but after the problem was fixed, we got about 440km. This doesn't sound exactly like yr problem but it may help. Good luck mate! Btw nice car mate! They are very good value for money the old TH 3.5s.

a lot of people reccomend a o2 sensor id say take to someone put on computer and see if any faults come up

or perhaps a decent full service would be a good start
14W KM.... is that 14,000km or 140,000km?

were you flogging it?
The white smoke from the exhaust could mean a headgasket leak with coolant entering the combustion chambers and turning to steam....or, more likely it's due to being driven on a short run which doesn't allow the exhaust system to heat up and evaporate moisture in the exhaust....however this should stop after 10km or so and if not then check to see if the car is using coolant. This will also cause an increase in fuel consumption although you really need to give it a month or so as it's normal to leadfoot it a bit in a new car! At that mileage the motor should not be burning oil which usually has a bluish haze. I'd check out the basics before spending money on possible causes.
If the oil is dirty I'd change that plus the oil and fuel filters....that should cost no more than $50 if you do it yourself. Good Luck.

A compression test may be useful...

Thanks guys, I'll go for a car service a month later and see what the problem is . And then I'll back here and continue my thread. It's 140K KM, 140000 km.

If you suspect coolant getting into the engine, check underneath the oil filler cap. If there is coolant getting in you would likely see tan coloured frothy oil sludge under the cap.
High fuel consumption can also be a symptom of a slipping clutch or low oil pressure in the transmission.

Even flogging it constantly wouldn't make it that bad, I can't get my awd to consume that much even if I gun it everywhere.
Compression test wouldn't be a bad idea, o2 sensor, injectors and a general service might help. Best to get a dignostics machine onto it thought if you've really no idea, or just let a mechanic check it out.

I can......
O2 sensor is probably a good place to start, it seems to be a common break point in the magnas

You should probably do some checks yourself then, the best I've managed was 18L/100km once with a heavy foot in stop start traffic, spirited driving only sees 16L/100km.
20L/100km in a fwd magna just seems ridiculous to me, there must be something majorly wrong, when my o2 sensor wasn't working at all in the Verada, it still only managed 15L/100km at worst under average around town driving.
Edit: Even HRD2GT was only getting 18-19L/100km from memory when his car was auto, and we all know how he drives, his throttle doesn't regulate, its either 0% or 100%, basically a switch. lol
