Unscrew gear knob mate.
Then just pull out the surround that goes around the gear knob and boot, the boot will be screwed into the surround underneath. Undo those 4 screws and swap it over, then put it back together :)

sweet cheers, seems easy enough.
Im guessing the gear knob just unscrews via twisting it?

If you want some extra details (not sure if you did it)
You can pull the whole silver section up/out by grabbing the gear surround and pulling up then back towards the back of the car. The rest should be self explanatory.. I did mine, made it heaps better.. was only $25 for a genuine one from Mitsubishi.

Yes. It twists off.
Make sure you're twisting anti clockwise - lefty loosey, righty tighty. It may have some lock tight on it so you may need a grippy cloth or some such thing and a lot of strength.

hehe yeah I got a mitsu one which has the classic 'flake'. too bad those really nice momo ones are like $80+ >: (
Don't worry about genuine, so long as it fits. The genuine ones are bollocks. I bought one too, every single manual magna i've seen has a flaked/destroyed boot. (unless replaced). Only did mine a month or so ago and although its still sealed, i can see it wont be much longer. Leather mucho better, that $5 was worth it!
