Gday
I just bought a TP magna wagon with a TS 2.6l engine swap(60 000kms). It has a dual throat Weber carby, extractors and 2.5" exhaust and is tuned for premium. Neways, I filled it up from empty ($70) and took it for an easy drive, no gunning it, and coasting down long hills. I went 100kms and used 1/2 a tank (no the handbrake wasnt on). I know Magnas arent the most economical cars but I was hoping for atleast 400kms....def not 200!
What could be causing so much fuel to be used?
...Oh yeah it has a manual choke (which wasnt on the whole way) and idles at about 600rpm when warm, I dont think the choke is the problem because it doesnt idle fast...but then again im no expert.
Thanx for any help!
did u use up the other 1/2 of your fuel tank? u sure your Fuel Gauge isnt sutffeD?

I havent used the other half yet. It comes up to where it left off when I start it up again...and it did read as full then I filled it. It moves about ALOT (+/- 1/8th) when Im driving/stopped at the lights. How can you tell if the gauge it buggered?

When u fill it up does the fuel gage show that its full??
My old TM used to do the same, but the guage woulf show at half way right after i fill her up full tank.
The thing with the 1st gens are the that the Fuel Gage always stuffs up, its a common thing in them models....

Id say its youre guage, in my TP Wagon its fuel guage was stuffed, when id fill it up (like overflowing..lol) the most the guage would show was just over half....

Ok yeah sorry about that, I meant to say it showed full when I filled it up. Neways the I have put another 80kms on this tank and the gauge has hardly moved...It must be the gauge. It is running rich so I'll have to get that adjusted. Oh and it has a double weber because the guy who had it before me had it twin turboed (yeah I couldnt believe it either until I saw the pics) anyway it cooked turbos and did something to the injection so he put a weber on it and scraped the turbos.
I might get hold of an injection manifold and all that if it uses too much fuel.
Any ideas on what parts Id need to get hold of and a rough price estimate to get it back to injection?
Thanx

ok, this is what i was trying to find out a while ago, so a webber carby does fit the ts engine?

>>>About the Weber<<<
As far as I know it went straight on (with the usual amount of fitting)...I would ask him but moved out of the state, I dont know where, thats why he was selling the car.
>>>About the turbos<<<
Cant blame you there I wouldnt have believed it either....actually I didnt, seeing is believing.
He said the car ran like poo when it was turboed, which is understandable seeing as the AstronII isnt desinged for anything like that. He only had it on for a month or so I think. Massive waste of time and $$$. I wish I had got a copy of the pics with the car!!!
>>>The verdict about the fuel usage<<<
Turns out I got 250km from $40 (PULP) in the end, thats with a fair bit of city driving. So it was just the fuel gauge giving me a scare. The gauge raced to half in about 100km then did 250km without moving. I know it reads full when its full, and empty when its empty...its just everything inbetween thats stuffed, I'll have to go by kms.

In response to that about the guage reading funny, mine used to (it's playing up now but that's being fixed) take AGES to drop from full to half, but from half to empty it went really quick. I dont know why, my driving style didnt change, and this was when I was doing tafe at quakers hill...so 60ish km's a day driving usually in bumper to bumper traffic on the way home.

tr / ts ... kr / ks dont seem to bethat economical.... mine gets 350 - 450 (unleaded) to a 60lt tank ..... at the moment has an oil leak and running rich will have to see how it goes after i pick her up from my mechanic today.
mazzazx51 deffinate good luck with it...

I have similar problems with my TR and must agree I think its the gauge too.
Was taking a trip from Melbourne to Sydney on a full tank and in about half an hour to an hour, half the fuel seemed to disappear. Was about to turn around when I noticed it sitting half way for a while, and it stayed there for another hour before very slowly making its way down. Was able to get beyond 400km on half a tank according to my gauge

You would think that by now someone would have invented an accurate fuel gauge. I dont think there is one that doesnt move when going up and down hills and always shows exactly how much is in the tank.
Anyway were the gauges always all over the place from new or is it just with age?

just as a follow up on my post.... after putting my car in for service and repair of rocket cover gasket it was found that the throttle body was not opening or sumtin like that, so mechanics cleaned her or did sumtin lolz.... missks was running pretty rich apprently also had to have the tuning reset, injector clean or sumtin put through it, along with drive belt and alternator belts, 2 radiator hoses and sumtin else...... she's running so smooth at the moment so will see how many km's i get outa this tank.
When I was getting 350km out of a tank country, I did suspect the fuel guage. It wasn't the fuel guage.
missks - look forward to seeing how many k's you get out of your new tank.
My car is running rich but they told me there is not much they can do to re-tune it, as the car is EFI and tunes itself... hmm.

kim.... i got 460 to the tank this time but im so bloody sure she's still not running right, smells petrolly to me so back to the mechanics on thursday to get her looked at again ohhh and to get all my CV boots replaced + whatever else mite come up.... thinkin bout gettin the timing belt done early jus to be safe....
I get about 430km to 50 litres of MOBIL 8000. Thats suburban driving with 2.5 people in the car
for 1/2 of the time and 1 in the car for the other half and I drive it pretty hard.
Also, my guage also goes down slower in the top half then the bottom half. Apparently it is a
design problem and Mitsu knows about this. I think the 3rd gens have this problem as well.

well had missks in to the mechanic Yet Again....... seems that the reason she was running rich this time was that the fuel valve seal thing was ****ed..... all fixed .... she has a bit more pick up when i floored it lolz seems to be idling smoother.... we'll see how many km's i get this time.... also had cv boots and clamps replaced yay
 lol
cant be too much more for me to do on her
bron
does anyone know if it is easy to check the fuel valve seal?
