My stereo surround (i.e. the center piece of the dash where the radio is held) is currently sitting in place with no screws holding it and I cannot find where/how to screw it in. I have a feeling there should be clips or something which I am missing...
Would it be possible for someone to please upload a photo of their stereo surround so that I can see where the screws need to go? Also, if there are clips or something that hold it in place, can someone please upload a photo of them so I know what they look like and, if possible, let me know where I might be able to get replacements (if required)?
I have a TJ Series 2 if it helps. Appreciate any help with this! :ninja:

Search the Forums for "audio replacement' "head unit replacement" etc. Sorry, just too tired at this time of night to find the old threads for you.
There have been EXCELLENT threads explaining how to pull the dash apart to get at the radio unit. It is held in by 4 screws (at the corners, but the ashtray and lower console need to come out to get at the lower 2 screws, and the centre-vents need to come out for the top 2 screws. BEWARE: a control-cable from the right-hand thumbwheel holds the centre-vents in - if you try force without unclipping the cable you WILL destroy the centre-vents.
Hope you find the threads, or someone posts a link. I'm off to bed!!

I'm not asking how to pull it apart, I am well aware of all that.
I have searched extensively but there is nothing in any of those threads that explains how the radio surround is actually held into place - i.e. where exactly do the screws go? There is literally nowhere on my radio surround that will fit the screws, nor can I see anywhere to screw them into hence why I am asking whether there might be clips that I am missing or maybe there are pieces that have been broken off. The console removal guide was no help either as the red dots indicating where the screws go obscured how they actually went in, i.e. do they screw through clips or plastic bits that may no longer be on my radio surround due to breakage or some such thing?
I have compared mine with ones from the wreckers but they appear to be identical, however, that's not to say that the ones at the wreckers aren't broken also. If someone could please upload photos of their surround then I would be able to identify where the screws need to go or if the actual surround is broken and needs replacing or maybe even new clips.
If I get a chance I will take photos over the weekend to help explain what I am asking.

As Highlighted above there are 2 top screws & 2 bottom screws but they are behind the top and bottom parts of the dash. So you need to pull these parts off to get to where the screws are meant to be. The place the screws go is made of metal so it is very unlikely to be broken. I stole this picture off of Lugo's climate control thread and have marked the screw spots in red. Although it is pulled apart you should get the idea

That's exactly what I was after murph03! Thanks so much! I think I know why I'm having trouble finding them, I took the factory bracket out and did not put it back in which looks as though it has the bottom two screw locations built into it... How silly of me!
Do you know if there is any difference if you don't have climate control?

As far as the location of the 4 metal tabs which secure the audio/air-con fascia into the dash - there is NIL difference. The metal bracket which is intended to hold the radio and secure into the dash, also has 3-4 screw points which secures the plastic fascia panel to the metal bracket.
However, when you remove the fascia panel from a car with manual air-con, the air-con/heater controls cannot move much (due to stiffness of the heater cables) - so you must UNCLIP the Heater controls away form the back of the plastic fascia panel and the metal bracket. Clipping this back together while reinstalling the fascia panel is a NIGHTMARE (or so it seems to me)..... there is limited access and the clips are quite firm.
Sorry, no pics to illustrate what I mean.
EDIT: Without that metal bracket, I can't imagine how you even fixed the radio in place, not to mention the heater controls. I hope you still have the metal bit? If not, take care to get a bracket which comes out of a car with manual air-con. I honestly don't know if the brackets differs between manual air and climate, but just in case they do...... You need to get your fascia panel mounted to the bracket, then your head-unit and DIN pocket mounted to the bracket and lined-up with the audio opening, the manouvre the whole shebang into the dash hole - connect your head unit loom and aerial, connect the hazard switch, and then try to engage the heater control panel onto the combination of the metal bracket and plastic fascia panel.

When I removed the stock head unit I did so with the bracket attached to it and so I just put it aside. Thankfully I still have the bracket so I will put it back on tomorrow some time. I'm not sure how I managed to do it or why I never even noticed it before but I guess the bracket that came with the new head unit must have just been a tight enough fit to not move. I have to stop doing stereo installs late at night, there's always a mad rush to get everything back together and then things like this happen LOL!
