so after buying back my old tr from a mate i was jawsmacked by the filty condition it was in.

so i go about cleaning it, one step i just completed ( hopefully) was to get the live and dead cockroachs out the the dash gauge cluster ( no im not joking) after removing the cluster i saw a cockie motel and must have just killed and / or vacuumed no less than 100 cockies of all sizes.

curious i remove the air vent ( drivers side little one next to cluster) to find MORE of the bloody things.

now my questioon, last time i owned this car and now again im looking at it the modding bug is biing on my arse and i have been thinking about recoving the dash in black vinyal. more so after finding these cockies am i thinking about removing the dash ( gotta kill them all the bloody things) now the recoving is easy but im a little unsure about my ability to get the dash back together afterwards im just curious is it as hard as it looks and does anyone know where i can find a guide about this if one exists. sorry about my rambelling im in a real foul mood now and running on daylight as my lead light met one of my temper tandtrams when i kicked a box after finding this crap.

Well there is a how to in the gregorys manual, its pretty piss easy really.

Flip off speaker grilles, remove 10mm bolts
take cluster out, remove 2 x 10mm nuts
take out glovebox and all bolts you see around it
take off drivers kickpanel and i think 2 x 10mm bolts either side
drop the steering column
2 bolts, 1 either side of the lower centre console (under side kick panels)
and remove lower centre console (around gearshifter)

andddddddddd should pop out!

its a very simple process, dont forget though, to avoid more tantrums and dificulties, remove the steering wheel. also, it comes out in a turning motion, that is, to avoid snapping the plastic in the middle of the centre stack (you'll see what i mean when you pull it out) grab the top of the dash and kinda curve the top (if looking through to the passenger side from the drivers side window) anti-clockwise. the flat face should now be facing the car floor and will come out a breeze...

It easy removing steering wheel bash with hammer or rock the steering wheel back and forward. It would be a pain to remove the dash with the steering on :)

Take the wheel off or drop the colum, its 2 bolts and it drops down and dash will come out over it. Or else just remove steering wheel, undo nut but leave it on at the end of the thread, bash it around till she moves, use some WD40 to help the cause.

WTF...magna has collapsible steering column, youll damage it using brute force.

OP, undo the nut and leave it approx 1/2 to 3/4 of the way on. DO NOT COMPLETELY REMOVE THE NUT. once its loosened, grab the wheel at top and bottom. shimmy it off by pushing the top while pulling the bottom, then push the bottom and pull the top. it should come loose, but if it doesnt, grab it on either side. dont be afraid to 'brea the steering wheel', it wont happen. lol. if worse comes to worse, put some WD40 on it and do it. itll be very hard for you to remove the dash with the wheel in place because it will stop it from pulling out properly.

reason we say not to remove the nut from the column, simple, its weed on tight and if it comes loose all f a sudden, youll require plastic surgery. lol

all done, its out. only problem was that i somehow sliced the crap outta my thumb but it ok. now for the nice and easy rooflining, why cant everything be as easy as roof linings. ty guys

EDIT: also i can verify for anyone else planning this that it is WAY easier to drop the steering colum than it is to remove the wheel
