View Full Version : Boot lid compatibility

So my wife crunched up the boot lid on our 97 TF, and we're on the hunt for a new boot lid. Now one wrecker we went to said that he had a TJ, but it's not compatible with the TE/TF range.

Is this true or false? It leads me to further questions because I like the lights in the TJ series, and have thought about bringing them to the TF before, not to mention the bonnet, grille and lights.

I was under the impression that the body itself had not changed. Can someone school me here? Thanks.

if you do a seach mate plenty of info, but yes TE/TF/TH are all interchangable without much mods. TJ needs a few mods. as i said do a seach will give u all the info you need

Yea the TJ boot will fit fine, you would just need to change to TJ tail lights as well, and then change the lock so your old keys still work...

Same deal with the front end, the bonnet will fit fine, you just need a TJ Grille too.

Take a look at my car dude its a TH with TJ boot and KJ tails, no modifications needed, all bolt-on. I do have some lining up issues, but I am told this just requires some tweaking of the bolts... I havent been bothered to try yet :P

Yeah I bought a boot lid for my TF here, only had to change the lights, the rest bolted up just fine. (Dont forget to attach the release cable or your not getting back in though haha)

As above the lid will fit with the TJ lights, I have some lights here if you are struggling to get them

You will need to rekey the TJ boot lock as the TF lock will not fit the J boot, this is no real big drama though

I also have a KF Verada back end here, ie boot lid, tail lights and complete boot light assy with garnish if this is of interest

+1 for TJ bootlid, the aggressive lines make it look a lot better.

Also, funny that Life then Afterlife commented.

Okay, wow guys thanks for the input. I agree, that the TJ boot lid and lights make for a sexy look. I love the lines, so that it definitely an option.

Madmagna, does the bootlid happen to be white? If so, PM me with a price for everything, and let me know your locale!

Far as rekeying goes, I'm assuming there's DIY kits for doing so right? I've done rekeys for cylinder locks for houses but not boot locks, and the Magna's inverse cut design leads me to believe it might be a tad tricky.

I still gotta do this too, so if you sus this one out on the cheap, let me know!

Will do. I like re-keying locks so chances are, I'll give it a go. I've got a spare sitting around from the first replacement boot lid that I bought and swapped the original lock with. If I can make it look like I know what I'm doing I'll take pics and write up a tutorial, but that's assuming I can figure it out in the first place.

Another option is to shave it like mine :)

Haha, I consider it but I have a slight mistrust in solenoids.

As an update, Pocketz came through with a white TJ boot lid & lights, and damn I love the look. I love how they cut the top of it. A spoiler looks to be in order at some point, however I've got a new set of problems come up in the last few days.

Okay, one step forward, two brutal steps back. The wife decided it's time to replace the bumpers by taking it it for a quick impromptu offroad spin, and the front bumper has got bends at the wheel well front being pushed up. The rear bumper got pushed up on the passenger side, cracking it at the corner mount located underneath the tail light and putting a massive dent in the side panel above the bumper.

Urgh... I'm beginning to suspect that my wife is some sort of automotive misogynist. For as much as she loves the car, she seems to be trying to kill it.

So new question, will TJ bumpers fit on a TE body? I suspect the rear bumper is a non-issue, but correct me if I'm wrong there. The big question is in regard to the front bumper. Should that be exactly the same as the TF, or did that change as well to accommodate the redesign of the bonnet and grille? Does the redesign carry over to the headlamp assemblies as well, or are they still the same?

Yes the TH/J bar fits, and please do it, its such an improvement :)

Interchangable parts are as follows:

- Interior Seats, Plastics, Dash, Door Cards
- Front Bar, Fenders, Doors, Windows, Window Surrounds, Rear Bar, Boot Lid, Tail Lights, Head Lights
- Engine, Gearbox, Power Windows
- Boot carpets, Interior carpets

in a TE-TF the only exclusions you are looking at are running gear (ie. electronics like cluster, ecu etc...).

If you are worried about the solenoid for the boot release, grab the manual release cable from a TL (a pull ring is then located in the ski port) - TL's do not have a key barrol on the boot lid.

Thanks for confirming so much of what I'd suspected. Sweet. New front and rear bars it is.
