do the rocker cover gaskets

any oil on the plug leads can cause a break down of the insulation

degrease the area after fixing

are you sure the oil on your leads hasnt just dripped down from the rocket cover? the leads dont carry any fluid so they shouldnt be coming out of the leads.

and as mentioned when you fix the gasket do a degrease and wash of your bay area, just make sure to cover the dizzy, and alternator with a rag to prevent any issues. personally i normally hit any electrics with RP7 ( or wd40 whatever you use) after a degrease. its not required but it doesnt hurt and hey your bonnets up anyway right :D also if you have had oil dripping all over your leads might be a good time to give the leads a quick change and pull your plugs out and clean around them with a dry cloth ( replace if they look abit past their age)

Guys, while assistance is appreciated, please only offer advice if you know what you are talking about as members get very confused with bad information

The THIRD gen has plug tube seals, if these are leaking, they need replacement urgently as the oil will both swell the rubber leads and destroy them and can also cause ignition problems if the oil gets under the lead

This is common as many people replace the gasket and not the tube seals themselves

If not what is that part because Im pretty sure theres oil coming out of that one.. infact im having a real issue.. could someone possibly do a walk through on how to fix them.. and all the gaskets..

Cheers.

the black part with the logo on it??? is that the 'rocker cover'?? if so is that what I have to remove to get to the back spark plugs?

Also are these tube seals in the photo at all..??

Nah mate they are your leads. Your tube seals are sandwiched between the rocker cover (with mitsubishi written on it, used to cover the rocker's inside) and the head, to prevent oil entering where the spark plugs go.

So if you take out the lead (gentle twist and pull) you will see the seal sandwhich'd at the bottom of the rocker cover at the start of where the tube is in the head.
personally, I'd bet they are shagged and that is your problem

This is the issue the Mitsubishi Mechanic told me on the phone today, its these plug tube seals that are leaking as well as the rocker covers. So I am fixing them as he said it cause cause oil in dizzy and cross firing etc, not good if not fixed.

do you just pull the seals off the shaft and push new ones on? or is there more to it?

Once you have the rocker covers off you wll see the seals sitting on top of the spark plug tubes - just pull off, discard, and replace with new ones.

Old and new Subbie ones. You get the idea as to what happens as they age. Could't find a Mitsu pic, but they look somewhat the same. (Having never actually seen a Mitsu one, that's just a guess. lol)

This is what I had done today. Its definately worth doing while everything is apart etc. Should last another 10 yrs! Hopefully.

$61 AU from rockauto.com. Delivered to your door, Felpro kit, contains rocker cover gaskets as well. Chuck in a few other bits like platinum plugs to make it a better deal as far as postage goes.

If you said they were off a Magna I would have believed it. They look the same.

I got my rocker cover gasket and 3 tube seals from Bursons for $46. ($92 for both banks)
Mitsubishi wanted $50 for the gasket and $25 for each seal = $125 ($250 for both banks)

The rockauto.com price is for 6 tube seals and 2 rocker cover gaskets. When I buy stuff from them I throw in some other bits I want that don't increase the postage costs. Platinum plugs are ideal for this. lol (Plus they are ridiculously cheap compared to local prices for the same NGKs.)
