Hey guys i have a Manual TE 3.0L with the standard black and white cluster. Today in the mail i got a Cluster out of a TF Auto Sports (tip tronic), its a red and white one. Well anyway i when i got it the fuel arrow was on full and then i hooked it up and turned the car on and the fuel gauge dropped all the way down to empty. Also when the car is in the "on" position the tacho goes straight to 2000 rpm and the speedo jumps to 40. When i crank the engine the tacho moves up only (as though its already on 0) same goes for the speedo.

What can i do to resolve this issue ? Thanks !

I would say you hvae a faulty cluster as I have fitted TF clusters into TE's many times with no issues at all

You may need to manually put the needles on in the approximate places, e.g. turn the car on put the fuel needle on at nearly full where it was previously, put the tacho needle on at around 700+/- 100 rpm at idle and wait for the car to warm up and then put the temp needle on at approx 1/3 to 1/2. The speedo will be the trickiest to get right - if you have a GPS you can get the car up to 60km/h and then place the needle on at the corresponding position. This is how I had to do my TL when I swapped the facia over.

- Note: I may have misunderstood yr post - this is only for swapping the face over. If you have swapped over the whole cluster pls ignore this!!

ok well i bought this off "TF Magna" and i dont want to jump right to the fact its faulty so i would like to try everything else first. I took the perspex case of when fitting it and set the car to "on" and tried winding the needles back to 0 but they just spring right back to where they are !

I spose they just pull straight up?

So i should take them off when its out of the car then start the engine and then put them back on ?

If the sports cluster is not working switch the dials over onto your old cluster. this has the benefit of keeping your correct Odometer reading, just make sure you remember what position the dials where otherwise you have to recalibrate them.

put the cluster in without needles try the on position first and then press the needles in. if it doesn't work the cluster's shagged

I read somewhere you have to keep/store these clusters upright in the same position as fitted, something to do with oil in the gauge mechanism that can leak / be displaced. Dont know if it is BS or not but I know a lot have been posted around by AMC members without an issue.

Thats BS :)

When the gauge clusters were delivered new to MMAL they were all stored laying down etc, also when i bought the blue faced gauges for my car they were all in seperate boxes just wrapped in bubble wrap... so during transport to me they wouldve been sat upside down or put anyway the courier wanted to throw them.

I have changed numerous gauges clusters (and individual gauges) over in magnas and had no issues.
