WOW. Mate, that is a 1 hour job. Rip off quite frankly.

With $300 you can do both rocker cover gaskets, plugs, leads, rotor button, dizzy cap, cam seals, oil change etc...

To give you an idea, its about 60-90 minutes labour and $30 for parts.

Don't do it mate...not for that qoute anyway. IMO $300 is a bit much, even for labour.

if you do it yourself which is the best option just remember to clean all old gasket off first, use something like a gasket scraper ($6.00 from autobahn) and use for gasket goop to seal it. got to do mine before rego anyways so ill add it to the list of things to make i guide about that i never actualy do :D

Gasket is rubber and should come off in one piece. Technically when doing these you only need goo where the half moon is in either end, i always put a smear on both surfaces of the gasket to 100% ensure no leaks now or in the future, but I'm just picky

It just cost me $399 for
a) Spark plug premium $6 ea = $18
b) Plug lead set $117 ea = $115.00???
c) Rocker Cover gasket/seal sets $45 ea = $90
d) Labour $88 p/h = $176

I have been told I have been ripped off???

welcome to the posting in old topics club /flame on

spark plugs sound about right, though sounds like they used the normal plugs not the platinum or iridium plugs as last time i checked they were worth alot more than 18.00 a set ( also 4x6 is 24 not 18)
plug leads for 8mm topguns only cost me 66.00 locally and the shitty bosh leads are only like 40.00 so big ripoff for the leads omho
rocket cover gasket cost me 18.00 from mitsubishi about 2 months ago and the little plugs on top were .90cents each so if thats the only gasket he done big rippoff there

labour is abit hard, locally i pay around 65.00 hour but it really does depend alot on where you live, a hear south and west aus are the dearest, that being said ive seen some workshops in qld charging 95.00 an hour so you could done alot worse maybe some more local can tell you more about pricing in south aus

all up in a 2nd gen i cant see that work taking more than 1 hour id be asking for invoices for everything including what they paid for the parts they used ( dont know about south aus but in nsw if you ask they have to actually show you found this out from fair trading when i had a issue with a workshop couple years back)

my estimate based on what i pay and your qouted labour

ngk standard plugs 24 saying standard as thats what it looks like you have paid for
bosh leads 40 saying bosh leads as i see them used local unless ppl actually ask for better leads
rocket cover gasket 18
2x cover grommits 1.80
labour @ 2 hours 176 saying 2 hours as that what you paid

TOTAL: $259.80

personally some may disagree but like i said i wouldnt see it taking more than an hour plugs take all of 5 mins, same with leads, gasket took me about 20mins to do, grommits take 10 seconds each total my time 40mins 20secs roughly i still would have charged for the hour as a minimum meaning 88 for labour not 176
