Where is your amp located and how are the gains set ? it could be overheating, try to turn the gains down.

Ok check your ground, make sure its making a proper connection with the chassis and the paint under it has been sanding back ! What amp is it ?

Check the Basics first.
1. Check Power cable fuse..
2. Check for a protection light.
If there is no life in it.. then the amp has cooked itself.

Do you own a multimeter? These can be handy for checking for a source of power which can help you eliminate what is not wrong. If you do have one test your input of the distro (assuming you have one) if you get a reading there, then move onto the outputs of the distro if theres power there, then back track to the engine bay and so fourth.
Also do you know what sort of wiring kit you have ? If you have a cheap 8 gauge kit, then the chances are that you have an AGU fuse under the bonnet and if thats the case it has probally died. This normally happens with cheap AGU fuses because they arent the best designed fuses, the solder can melt easy on the connections which leaves you with no power to your distro/amps. I would recommend checking it and if thats the case go spend $10 on a pack of 5 Stinger Branded AGU fuses they are well build and you should only ever need one.
If its an aftermarket amp ensure the remote wire, power wire, and ground wire are all clamped in nice and tight, and if you havent used terminals ensure now wires are frayed and touching the other inputs.
pics of your setup can also help !

I wouldnt jump directly to that idea after checking those 2 things, there are many more things that could be going wrong, and one of those are checking the ground (which is also basic). Also something could have shorted and in his fuse box (in the cabin) he could have blown a fuse there aswell.

its an after market amp, i took it to audiocom and a guy there checked it with a meter and said there was no power going to the deck but since it only started dying when the amp got really hot i just thought the amp blew, i tested it one day by getting some 1 to turn it up loud and when it cut out the red protection light came on but i dont know if its blown completely or not

Check your fuse on your main cable with a multimeter on ohms scale or replace it with a brand new fuse should fix the problem with no power going to the amp.

'xtreme'? No offence but sounds like a really cheap crappy amp. I wouldnt be suprised if it killed itself from overheating....
Just to clear something up, the actual headunit itself is still powering up and playing back your music yes? Your just not hearing anything?
Doesn't sound overly complicated to me. If your power cable is sending power, your earth is good (confirm with a multimeter), and all your fuses are intact (inspect them closely for hairline cracks or burn marks too), and your remote wire from the headunit to the amp is intact, then the amp is dead. Solution = Buy a new amp.

What I don't understand is...
If he was cranking the tunes and the Headunit went... How loud was it....
This could mean that possibly there is a short somewhere else in the system.. Is it possible that a speaker could have shorted out ?

yeah thats what i was thinking coz it used to work then it only worked on vol 12 (instead of 22 :D ) any higher and i would reset itself then it died for a month then cam on for a week then died and hasnt come back on since...
