Not sure about changing that one. Do they have aftermarket Auto Gear Knobs with Overdrive?

I think you will be able to find ones with "side buttons" for the Auto though.

Try look for a screw on the side facing towards the dash. Otherwise, try popping the top bit off. I'm venturing a guess here, good luck with it though.

i was just going to stick a normal gear knob on it, and put a switch on the console for overdrive, reckon it would work?

I'm not sure about the Overdrive bit.

I don't think you can stick a normal gear knob on it though. It's because the button for your Auto is on the side of the shifter.

I suppose if you want to change it without that much hassle you would need to get a knob that has the button in the same position. Some aftermarket shifters have that, but you need to look around.

With a little thought and some info from you about what it looks like under your shifter we could come up with a plan on replacing it with any manual stick you want. You are right it should be easy to run a switch from your dash to under the auto surround where the switch connection is.

As for the Shift button, then you should be able to (like me) make some arrangement that will allow you to operate the shift stem with a downward motion on your shift knob like they do on some cars to get into reverse. Obviously if you use your shifter to get from D->3->2->1 a lot then unless it moves freely without pushing the button down then it will be hard to shift effectively. With mine being Triptronic you can use it most of the time without the need to use the button.

he is saying that you can mod it to have a manual knob on it, and press down to activate the button

also the 1 > 2 > 3 > D. thing is just like kind of changing gears in an auto
from 1 to 2 to 3 etc as you accelerate

Try popping the side button out with a screwdriver and maybe you'll find a screw securing it inside.

Not sure, guessing again, but worth a shot though.

How do you think the gears change then? When you leave it in D, the computer determines
when to change the gears.

Shifting from a forward gear to a reverse gear or vice versa while the car is moving is a bad
thing to do but there is no reason why you can't shift (rpm permitted) from D - 3 - 2 - 1 or vice versa while the car is moving.
