hi all, I was just playing around with my intake and I drove it for a bit without the intake snorkle and it sounded awsome, however this is not a power gain, probably more of a loss, but it sounded Awsome. if you all have time, try it, just remove the front part to the air box and go for a squirt, it's damn throaty and roars.
also, off topic, some of you may remember the topic of electronic superchargers. I borrowed my friends eRam and plugged it in, the results are subjective but nevertheless I could feel a slight improvement over baseline, things that were noticable were:
Engine rev far quicker, trans would kick down gear much quicker or without much hesitation, highway overtaking from 80 to 120 improved dramatically, eRam could be heard from the cabin *whistle.
There was no noticable side effects when the car was running, but when car was switched off, the eRam dims all lights. they claimed 57amps, however the glass fuse was only 30amps, and I did not blow the fuse at all, so this could mean that the motor isn't really drawing 57amp as eRam advertised it would on their site (http://www.electronicsupercharger.com), anyway, for bang for your bucks rating goes, it's not as good as getting K&N air filter from stock, or extractors from stock headers. But it does complement the setup you have.
too much time on ya hands....electronic s/c ay? looks dodgey, but hey, maybe 1 or 2 kw more. this should be in members lounge lol

It was a review and sharing of information, if you don't like it, don't read it.
hahaha, i'm not saying i don't like it, its just that i don't see the point. how much is one of them e-ram things anwyayz?

the point is its a small but noticable power gain from a cheap bolt-on-bit just like most of the things that are used on here for small but cumulative power gains.
its funny i just tried the electric turbo for my datsun 1000 just to be diffrent, and think i have damaged the engine as a result. then i tried it on my magna bec the engine is twice the size, and the result i think was exactly what white devil described.
i think it would take 0.2 secs off but not 2.0 secs as a real turbo or s/c would for a 1/4 time. also it wouldnt idle or cruise at slow speeds under 100 kmh smoothly.

hey Altera98, what did you use? and was it continuously running? even at idle and cruise speeds? I didn't have any problems with idle or slow speeds as mine did not spin unless wide open throttle.

The tubing you've got there looks like it'll get squashed by the bonnet when it closes?

prolly does, but I think it was temporary while he was testing the e-RAM :D

yep, gets squeshed, and phonic is right, it' was only temporary.
Has anyone driven their 3rd Gen without the Intake snorkle yet??? i wanna hear what you think of it, above 3000RPM in WOT

i had the snorkel off b4 when i was making a CAI scoop into the snorkel,
for me i bouight the magna largely because its a very quiet and smooth car so the noise dosent exite me, it sounds the same as an open pod in the engine bay, too loud for me.
btw the "electric turbo" as it came runs constantly and i figured it would need to be set up to only come on when the throttle is 50% open, how did u achieve that? and how much did that one cost?
gotta luv your bunnings ducting too! :bowrofl:

The eRam unit came with a relay and a switch, the switch was attached next to the throttle cable, and the when you fully sink your foot down, the butterfly opens and the throttle cable will pull and rotate the pully until it hits the spring loaded switch, which then activates the 'suppose' 700W motor. But after i think it's not 700W, it has to be less than 14x30 <=420W as the glass fuse i used was only 30amp fuse, and if it was 700Watts, it would have drawn 50amps.
anyway, the bunnings ducting is the most accessible, hehe.. therefore quickest for testing
if you are interested in the information of the unit, eRam, you can read through their lengthy website at www.electronicsupercharger.com (Do not shoot me, as I'm only a messenger)
