Not sure how to explain it, but when I had my Magna, the bass the subs produced actually sounded like it was coming from the front speakers. In the Z, I can hear the splits at the front, and the subs at the back. So how can I fix this?

This is how ive got my subs set up atm (old pic)

Unless your amp has phase control ( unlikely ) the easiest thing to do is to swap the polarity of your sub woofer. I.e. swap the positive and negative wires around. This will change the phase 180deg.

Give that a go and see if it improves.

Thanks, that actually helped a bit. Still not exactly how I want them to sound though. Must be the angle ive put the boxes in. Not the easiest thing to change as ive made the boxes to mould with the trim. Might have to start from scratch.

Nope.. Its got more to do with the fact that your driving a Hatch..
Your in the same cabin space as the subs, I might have to suggest turning them down a notch on the amp... See if that does not bring it back into balance more..

Bass (20-80hz) is nearly totally non-directional. The sound you sould be hearing is likely to be mechanical sound or resonance/rattles from the car or box. No matter how well tuned your system is, as long as resonance is apparent, the sound will be pulled back

You could also be hearing the air movement across something - port noise for example is common and I think this is why good ports have bellmouth openings.

Just one more thing to look for :)

You could lower the cross-over/cutoff level for the splits, you should be able to take the splits down to 100 Hertz ( possibly lower)in the front.

So the bass you can here is in the front, and the 80Hz and below is non directional.

If you set the fronts to 100 Hz min and the Sub above 100 Hz, The phase will be important to set correctly as Bass cancellation may occur.
