View Full Version : Apology, RDA brake pads, rotors.

A while back I replaced my single pot front rotors and pads with RDA components. Brake performance was minimal, scary at best. A couple of members agreed, saying the pedal pressure was excessive and there was no feedback through the pedal. I was ready to junk both the pads and rotors.

Well, was I wrong! After 300 km the brakes have improved to better than original (warped rotors led me to replace them, not poor performance). Pedal pressure is light, cold bite is excellent, feedback is good, the non ABS system can be held at close to the point of lockup with little difficulty in a panic stop with cold pads.

So, the message is - the RDA rotors and pads that come with them are good, they just need a much longer than usual time to bed in. I'm used to "twice around the block" as a bedding in for front pads, but not in this case.

No warping evident up to now, anyone here has had RDA rotors on their car for a much longer period?

I'd be bleeding the brakes aswell to ensure best pedal feel

Forgot to mention that. I popped the front pistons out and cleaned the accumulated rubber debris out of the calipers. Reservoir cleaned out, fresh fluid, rears bled, all guide pins lubed, front calipers assembled and bled. Torque wrench used on all bolts and wheel nuts. Good as new. For the next 5 years at least. lol

Mostly city driving, although there's been a few mountain runs thrown in for good measure. They're working as well as the day I got them (although I didn't have the running issues you had).

Have you noticed any brake fade with the GCTs? My car is getting bendix HD up front and GCT rears as we speak. I plan on getting some RDA slotted rotors, so its intersting to see what some opinions are.

Have been talking to someone in the local motorsport industry and he says the RDA rotors may not last as long as the DBA's, but the price difference makes them worth while. Get mine tomorrow with Lucas pads up front & Bendix ct rears.

I had RDA slotteds and RDA pads on mine, didn't have a problem with them in the slightest, loved the pedal feel and the braking. My only bitch is the RDA pads, whilst supposed to not be dusty were :(

RDA slotted! The Lucas pads are supposed to be fairly dusty, but work good fade wise and are less harsh on the rotors than comparable pads, in his opinion!

I had General CT pads on my Magna up until last weekend, when I changed them for Ultimates. I liked the General CTs as a day to day pad, as they bit early and felt quite progressive.

good to hear more good words for the RDA, very under rated. When you say 'someone in the motorsport industry says' are you talking for street or track.

on the falcon i had rda rotors and bendix ults all round and it was peeeerfect. mush better than stock. as for rda vs dba from i research i done online it was actualy rda that were better than dba. that was only a year ago but i wouldnt think that much had changed. also wanting to hear from people about this as my brakes are being done before rego and i was going to go with rda again.

i put theses rda on mine about 3 weeks a go with bendex pads they are great but these are not the cheap ones thu zinc coated so no rust
was going to upgrade brakes but due to no intention on doing to much moteo wise and having manual conversion done im sure this is enough

I've gotten some pretty bad fade on a particulaly intense down-hill mountain run, but generally they're pretty good. If you're getting HD/Ultimate pads you shouldn't have any dramas though. I stuck with the GCTs because I don't like noisy or dusty pads. If/when I go for a twin piston upgrade I'll probably whack some better pads on the front though.

ive got RDA slotted on the front, mildly warped oem rears and Bendix GCT's all round, pushed by super DOT4 fluid... whilst i dont continuously apply brakes down hill (i use the engine where possible) when i have needed to quickly lose some speed on some twisty hilly roads they have been there form me. slots are awesome in wet weather (just gotta watch the car behind). maybe next service the rear rotors will be u/s and i'll finally get the rear slotted cause that seems to be the weakest link.... all in all for my spirited driving style im happy with the combination.

Put them all round on my old subaru in 2004 and was cheaper and safer than getting my originals machined! Absolutely no problems with wear or warping for the 3 years we had the car thereafter. DBA's were ridiculously priced at the time. I had doubts when I got them but would buy them again no worries at all.

Ive had a great run out of my DBA 4000 front rotors with endless pads..... theres no way id go back to driving on the stock factory poo (my uncles TW has woeful feeling brakes but they are use to them).
The way i see it is get the best pads etc that you can afford as brakes are really not something that you wanna stuff up and have fail on ya. It makes me cringe when i hear about people using "race" compound pads on there street cars and then wonder why they cant stop when the brakes are cold...... Ya brakes have to work first time everytime.

I have vague pedal on cold with DBA slotted and ultimates when cold

still stop me but when they warm up they are SO GOOD

I was a little concerned but now I might get the RDA slotted for the rears over the OEM I have on the rears ATM

been running RDA slotted/lucas pads for about 2-3 years now, cant recommend them enough :) on my 2nd set of front discs now, and stayed with the combo, so that should tell u the story :)

so cheap too, $200 tops for front discs and pads is pretty damn good! had the fronts machined at 1 point, but shoulda just paid for new discs as its not much more!

but yes, the combo can be pretty dusty

still contemplating on whether to go slotted rears tho
