View Full Version : 0gauge power wire curiosity
just curious how people run ( if used) 0 gauge power wire to boots / cabin for amp power.
got talking to my old boss tonight when he was over for dinner and it seems he has more and more people coming in asking for it and he was looking for ideas on better ways to run it to what he does.
i told him id ask around amc and mea and get back to him.
feel free to post the way you do it or plain old ideas and pics as always are welcome

i did mine easily, ran it from the battery, through the hole where the (i guess) body loom goes in, then it goes through a sort of grommit on the firewall inside the front gaurd, then simply along the side of the car where all the other wiring goes...
yeah thats the way we do it now :D im preety sure thats the accepted way but i like doing what i say i will and i did say id ask :)

if you are doing a battery relocation, you cannot run the wire through the cabin. It must remain on the outside and underside of the car. If interested i can supply a write up of how i did it / pics for my boot relo.

I have never heard of that before, any reason?
95ts - other good option is adding a "Power Stud" where the original positive terminal used to be in the engine bay. That way you can tidy up the existing wiring that was originally there. :)

there are some very specific rules you must follow asell, all of which dont come to mind at the moment. It must also be secured at least every 300mm and a few other thigns. I searched for a long time for a 'power stud' and noone anywhere even knew what i was talking about. I chose to run it to a 1x0awg to 4x4awg distributiion block mounted on the frame of the car above the crank pulley (so i had a striahgt shot to the back of the car with the rather non-flexiable 0gauge. I then used a separate 4awg line from this to the fuse box and to the starter. Car cranks better then it did with the same battery from the upgraded wiring even though its now in the boot. I also run a 110amp circuit braker. The +'ve terminal i use is 1x0awg and 1x4awg and 2x8awg. Ive run the 4awg 500mm to my amp, so although i would have normally wanted to use 2awg, normally this would be run the length of the car, so 4awg run half a meter would have probably less resitsnace although i havent looked into specifically. Anyways now im getting off track

I can't find anywhere that the cable must be run externally in NSW. The laws all seem to based around how the battery is mounted rather than the wiring.
Most people seem to run the wire externally but ( I have seen shops advertise that they can do it both ways. )
Power stud is a nickname for protected bolt that links all the existing power cables where the positive terminal used to be - to the new wire from the boot. Has to be fabricated to custom suit the car.

On my Falcon i ran if the from the battery through the firewall and under the scuff panels on the drivers side.
On my Magna i have got it going from the battery through the grommet behind the passenger strut tower, through the wheel well, through another grommet into the passenger side kick panel and then its run under the scuff panels on the passenger side.

Yes same here i have never heard of that and i have seen it done may time without a problem. Espically in VE Commodore as their batteries are in the boot of the car.

your power wire went through quite an adventure didnt it peaandham! lol
Mine went through firewall grommet pretty much middle of the car...under the passerside carpet then along the carpet down the side of the car...hell if i could fit that fat mofo under the kickpanels or along with the existing powerwire!
wow...didnt realise the battery is in the boot of the ve, any groundbreaking reason for that?

Just weight distribution.
Also yes my power wire did take a nice trip, it would have been easier if i removed the wheel and the guards but i took a short cut, but still works a treat ! lol

battery in the boot is nothing new for brand new cars. Even r33 skylines had boot mounted batterys from the factory. and thats like 1996
