The CD player cable leaves the back of the tuner and disappears along the transmission tunnel. Could someone tell me where it reappears please? There is no CD player fitted. I hope to be able to use the cable for an MP3 player, so information on pin connections would be very useful too, and may save time and smoke on a trial-and-error approach.

Ummm, I am guessing that you mean:

There is no source unit in the front of your car but their is a plastic plug with several wires coming out.

You want to know what wires are what so you can put in a source unit that has MP3 capability?

if your talking about a mp3 car audio headunit than you can simply buy a aeropro adaptor plug that plugs into your existing wireing harness. a pic of the cable you are talking about would help as i was a little lost reading your post, also welcome to the fourms
