Hey all.

I usually don't like asking this sort of thing, but I'm a bit stumped.

I've got a 1994 Magna Wagon. 2.6 (Inj) (Manual if that helps)
238,000k's on the clock.

Went to class, did my exam at 9am yesterday. parked the car up. Went to use it again at 8pm and she wouldn't start... Just sits there and cranks.

So today I checked all the plugs and everything under the engine bay, nothing seems amiss.

Is there any no-start common faults that these have?

Just checking for fuel and spark now.

This is why I hate asking for help. (I'll always fix it before anyone replies hhahah)

Checked the plugs, showed a mate who knows more about these finer things than I do... Ceramics were black (burned) He reckons the plugs were shorting out.
Went down got some new plugs, Wouldn't start... showed dad... starts first go for him.. FU.
ordered some new leads too.

Also, I checked the plugs I had in it (BCPR6E) and they aren't the right ones according to the book.

Who knows.

No longer starting. FFS.

I went to the wrecker picked up a coil, so It's not the coil haha. they reckon it might be the Ignitor... which they said I can just swap the coil for an ignitor tomorrow. So will try that.

It's not fuel, tested the rail for fuel in the repco carpark where I was stranded for 3 hours.

Same problem as last time, car worked for a while, then just stopped.

on the upside, It has nice new ignition leads that were on special ;)

No, I think its the ECU, you are almost perfectly describing what happened to me a while ago with my 2.6 TS, spent heaps replacing stuff and in the end it turned out (to the best we can tell) to be a loose/dodgy connection on the ECU.

Mine even randomly fixed itself every now and then too, made it a problem cos the mechanic couldnt diagnose it when it was working so he just guessed and replaced parts.

I was told to also listen for a clicking noise coming from around the glove box (ecu is behind there), but mine hasnt had the problem since then so I never got to listen.

Sound familiar?

Hmm... I'll give that ECU an inspection tomorrow... Cheers for the insight... seems to be in an annoying place too :(

ECU looks fine.

Ugh... apparently it can be scanned to check the parts like the CAS ect.

Yeah, my ecu looked fine too, just the act of taking it out and putting it back in seemed to clear up a loose connection, thats why it's intermittent, because its just bumps or a change in temperature that makes it lose contact.

Sorry, the only real way to test my theory is to wait till it stops working again and try re-connecting it, if it does happen again that is.

I feel really sorry for you, intermittent problems are the worst, particularly because a mechanic cannot diagnose it when it working, the same thing is happening with the lpg (lpg was unrelated to my ecu problem, happened on petrol too) system in my car at the moment, just stops working randomly sometimes, really frustrating, just wish it would either break completely or stop screwing me around.

I wish I knew what was broken. I bought this car to drive whilst I did up my BMW. (needed lots of parts, old parts were failing left right and center) now I have no cars.

It's still not working... It basically has no spark and won't start.

Which one has no spark?, is your magna currently not working?

Right, Hopefully this was the problem... the Crank angle sensor.. (plug thing on the dizzy) had corroded pins, scraped them up with a small screwdriver and it started first pop... Will have to look at cleaning it up a bit better and replacing the insulation on the cable that's come off.

Cheers for the help... it had to be something dumb.
