Hey guys just wondering how everybody's leather on the steering wheel is holding up? Mine has worn rather badly where i always sit my hand..just wondering if It would be possible to get it reupholstered further down the track as it looks pretty tacky :(

they do tend to wear mate. But mines held up exceptionally well after 136 thousand k's i tend to change where i keep my hands in order to preserve it abit longer. Would be interesting to see if it would be covered by warranty

Mine seems to be getting a bit worn. I am thinking of getting mine reupholstered when I get my transmission leaver done.

Moisturise your hands and it will help alot. Use leather conditioner on the steering wheel is also good but don't drive straight away. Its very slippery. Generally, any auto upholstery shop should be able to re-stich some leather onto it.

I asked Trimcare in WA about retrimming a ralliart wheel, and the answer was $500, eek!

Thats what i was worried about!

It's a bit far gone now...better start looking for local upholsterers!

Out of curiosity how many km's has your cars done?

(mines done 50k, not a sausage of wear on it)

(my old car took 10 years and 140,000kms to even START showing signs of wear)

71,000km mate. I tried to narrow down something I might have on my hands that could cause premature wear but it buggers me, maybe I just grip the steering wheel to hard lol

EDIT: I'll get a photo of it later on

Iv actually already done mine myself (although I do do it for a living) and iv had to repair the manual gear stick too. I had some rather nasty scratches from the wifes rings when she lets the wheel free spin, but fixed it and repainted...now looks great!

Thats the thing. Don't free spin too much if you are wearing rings.

There are Two different leather wheels on a 380, the GT type being the much nicer, thicker leather type, and the SX is a lot thinner on the leather, and I would be surprised if someone got more than 100 - 120,000 without bad wear.

I see, thats a good indication as to why its worn so quickly.....and i'll assume finding a GT wheel from the wreckers will be near impossible

try Eddie Wreckers here in Adelaide.....they have had a few VRX 380 through,so they may have some leather wheels

I've done a few now mate, 2 Magna's and a 380, Happy to help. Just use all your stuff and the new Bare ( bagless, acc free) wheel.

Aha!, so that's the reason why my SX wheel is so poxy and skinny, was one if the only few things I didn't like about the car when I first saw it. Time to trawl the wreckers/ebay/unlocked GT's ;)

Dont hold me to this, but last time i was down at Mitsubishi, I got my shifter, and handbrake changed under warranty due to the leather/finish peeling. While the service man was inspecting he noticed a bit of wear on my wheel (as the leather was peeling slightly in the top corner), and stated that he could get that changed under warranty for me. I've just haven't gone back yet to get it done.

So maybe just double check that it can be replaced under warranty before you go out spending $$ ;)
