id go with the v6, if you wanted more power later on then modify that engine. or you could go all out . see tufftr's ar for a good example

I wouldn't rule the 4cyl out just yet, from what I've read the astrons love boost. In fact there were starions that came stock with a 2.6l turbo, and with custom setups it is possible to get over 200kw atw in a sigma. There is plenty of info on the net, sigma-galant.com is a good place to start.

Yeah just ask 86_Elite how much MONEY he's spent trying to get decent power out of an asstron. My motor N/A unmodified and his turbocharged 2.6 are making roughly similar power, considering I don't need to worry about any of the problems associated with a FI car give me another N/A V/6 anday

Even the SOHC V6 has some performance parts available now. Regrind cam's, high comp pistons, work the heads, decent exhaust and tune and you should see a fairly decent whack of power.

Correct, I mean I didn't cut any corners on my 2.6 build, my engine alone was around $6,000 for a fully race prepped 2.6 with a 1.5mm copper head gasket, custom IC piping, full Haltech ECU plus all other upgrades such as engineering certs, brake upgrades, suspension upgrades, gearbox upgrades.... the list goes on.

TBH, I would look at putting a 4G63 half cut into the TR/S which already comes pre-boosted.

I will however say that when my car was working, the 2.6 on boost is just a thing of beauty, I've never felt anything so amazing and I've been in alot of Sti's / WrX's / GT-R's.

But bang for buck, leave the Aus Spec Magna engines alone, and just go for a half cut.

I had a look into turboing and the guy that does conversions said yes its possible with an auto, with low boost, but i might end up replacing a few transmissions and a manual would be a better choice.
He also said low boost similar to a VL commodore setup would be cheap, and the price goes up from there with custom manifolds, aftermarket engine management, intercooling, cams, stronger internals, and he could do it if i really wanted (not engineered, so all defectable) but reccomended against it. He wasnt sure how much room there was in a v6 engine bay, but said it would be much better to start with a v6 over a 4...
I still want to turbo mine :P i just cant afford it =(

1) Who's "this guy" and if he's comparing a magna engine to a VL commodore then I would suggest you don't go there.
2) What exactly do you want in this car? Why do you want to keep it automatic?
3) How much do you have to spend realistically? My engine conversion has cost me well over $7000, But, in saying that, that's with a manual conversion at the same time, and everything is brand new (well replaceable parts wise)
4) What car do you have?
5) What kind of mechanical experience do you have?

word
what's the reasoning for going auto?? with either motor being a magna your bound to find the auto will let you down with reliability

1) Don't know them, but they were advertising with a fluro yellow sign on the back of a ute near a main road so I wrote down the number, seemed even dodgy-er in person.
2) Don't want to keep it automatic, that's just whats in it for now.
3) Not much anymore, the ladyboss says I have to save for a house =(
4) 2.6 TR, and a spare 3.5 KH
5) A bit of mechanical experience, not so much automotive mechanical experience though. Learning, bit by bit...

Sorry for the late reply, wasn't watching this thread.
