So some sneaky devil installed an anti wheelspin device in my engine it dies whenever i try and gun it. i can take off at anything under 1/4 throttle but if i try and accelearate too fast it cuts out till i reduce throttle. Feels like fuel surge anyone familiar with this?

It was working fine till i left it at the mechanics and he apparently degreased the engine.

remove distributer cap and blow water and crap out. Once clean check the contact points for corosion and refit!!!

could also be throttle position sensor, has happened to me before when de-greasing. mark its position, remove and spray liberly with electrical contact cleaner and re fit!!

Been here before lol check ever electrical connection for water damage. It will dry out mine did and it back to normal :)

make sure there is no water around the spark plugs...happens to my KS if i get too liberal with hosing the engine... i need new lead to stop that tho

NOT with them 380 tires of mine i hope

Don't worry, theres no possibility of wheelspin Kif!

Anyways guys, wen't to see Ben (he's at my joint now) and tried an alternative Maf, not it... Checked all the contacts, seem fine, Dizzy was sealed and only seems to happy under sudden WOT. Kind of like the TPS is taking a second or so to "catch up" so I'm going to try my TPS on it tomorrow night.

if its under load, perhaps it points to another problem, not getting enough fuel or spark

Under load is fine, its just sudden WOT... If you accell slower it'll rev out cleanly.

Check the spark plug tube's for water. if there is water blow it out with compressed air with a cloth over the top, works for me.

Has it worked before..... what have you changed?

Maybe it's good to limit Ben's ability to drive around at WOT until he gets used to the awesome power of the TE!

ive had similar symptoms on a couple of cars with busted up cat convertors, under light load it will rev out but give it a good kick in the guts and the exhaust is restricted and hence the engine bogs down.

Tried replacing TPS - Nada
Checked Dizzy and cleaned terminals - Nada
Ben is taking it back to the mech that broke it...

going to have to once i rego it, not happy he did fix an exhaust leak and a couple oil leaks maybe one of those has something to do with it
dean come on round and we'll rip off the exhaust tonight :p

lol pete snuck that in there. only just spotted it.

Checked for water in spark plugs, checked dizzy, checked just about everything i can. will rip out the fuel filter and remove the spark plugs tomorrow evening after that if i can't find the problem taking it back to that mechanic and figuring out why it has gone to hell. didnt have a drama with it till i let them touch it. last guy i know who had this exact thing happen to them ended up 2,500 out of pocket because his fuel injection systm carked itself after water got in with the spark plugs. and that was after the mechanic cleaned out his engine bay...

How does the fuel injection system suffer if water gets in the spark plugs? Two different systems, The injectors sit almost half a foot away from the plugs anyway..
Get some contact cleaner and one by one clean out the electrical plugs, Degreaser has gotten somewhere and stuffed something electrically I'd bet on.

Points to an ignition system problem.
As you try to accelerate more voltage is required at the spark plugs to create a spark in the ignition chamber.

It is most likely that there is a high voltage break down occurring.

When it is dark, lift the bonnet, ideally when the engine is cold.
Start the engine, get someone to rev it while you look around the engine bay, spark plug leads and lead heads.
If there is a breakdown you will see an electrical discharge occurring.
Do this away from any bright lights.
It is possible that there is a load of water trapped under some of the spark plug connectors.

;1270352']How does the fuel injection system suffer if water gets in the spark plugs? Two different systems,

your guess is as good as mine. i dunno how but we found water in his spark plugs and then the ignition system dies. happened at the same time after they cleaned his engine bay. he was stupid enough to spend 2500 on repairing his fully sick VS. lol

Still occuring, injectors have been replaced since. Any ideas?

tried an airflow meter swap?

Yep, swapped MAF and TPS with no luck.

checked fuel pressure/flow?
tried a dizzy swap?

dodgy fuel pump? have you tried changing the pump?

Have you found the solution? I had a similar symptom a while back and it turned out to be a restricted fuel filter ie. not enough pressure getting through under load.

This is an old thread and you guys have probably all resolved your issues by now,
but for those still looking for a solution...
I degreased my engine, well. If I gave it any throttle it would lose power and engine
would shudder.
My problem was caused by water in the throttle position sensor connector,
took me days to figure out but removed the connector gave it a quick blow and all
fixed.

wheel spins are for douchebags i would have bet on electrical contacts myself but i know crap all :D

been visiting the DIY carwash too many times in past 48hrs...

timely reminder NOT to go spraying water anywhere especially on parts higher than the rockercovers,
i usually poke the spraywand in around the engine before hitting the trigger

if you've done an ooops at the 017 cap, spotclean it with some zippo fluid & cloth - not a bucket of water

intake & injector systems shouldn't get greasy anyway, just dust with a brush and damp cloth that's all it'll ever need

stay away from Armourall & silicone oils, it just leaves a greasy film that attracts dust faster ;)

I've had this happen to the Diamante twice now. Given it the beans, it's revved out, done its thing, then about a second later the car just shuts off. Only done it twice in the year that I've owned it but still very strange. Cat converter when i took it out looked perfect. Can the cat converters actually be collapsed inside although the outer mesh looks in tact?

I had a bodgy auto electrician do a blue slip, he degreased my engine and got it in my distributor corroded teh insides and had to be replaced. problem solved till the car got scrapped a couple months ago.
