Hi everyone.
my '91 TR 2.6 auto has a problem of shifting. when i brought it it was advertised as needing a new computer for the trans (it was in safe mode) unfortunitely the people we brought it off drove it like that for over a year. i went and got a good tcu and plugged it in. the first 100 kays it was slipping its guts out lol. after that it was fine (so i thought). its got a few plobems such as overdrive not working (it shifts into what seems like neutral) in power mode in shifts down to first and wont change up. and i've noticed that when driving normally it skips 2nd altogher. as in going for 1st to 3rd. Am i up for a bill or is this common. Thanks in advance

overdrive only use above 70 kmph off below 70
the end clutch friction drive discs need replacing
it comes in a kit and can be repaired by taking off the driverside wheel
to take off the end plate ..The auto stays in the car
the auto will need a filter and oil change
if DIY use only mitsubishi brand tranny oil
for your car use this
free downloadable manual http://www.lisho.net/?page_id=3
use the second gen one its PDF adobe

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the forum but unfortunately not new to this same problem as Valitank. I have a 95 KS V6 Verada which has the same problems, I have pulled the End Clutch out of it which was absolutely stuffed with the metal plates very warped from being badly overheated, even though the corked plates didn't look too bad. I had the access to an end clutch out of a TN in which the corked and metal plates seemed to be the same as my Verada and in pretty good condition (No warping) so I carefully swapped only the corked and metal plates from the TN end clutch into my clutch assembly, but unfortunately that didn't fix my problem.
I would be very grateful if anyone can offer any helpful suggestions and advice.
Magna Buff,
you mentioned in your post that the clutch assembly comes in a kit, Where can I buy the kit??? Is it only from a Mitsubishi dealer spare parts or can it be bought from the likes of Repco??? I note the you are in Queensland, I live in Victoria, I would be grateful to you for any advice also.
Kind regards to all, limpy.

The orignal post said he needed a new TCU does your car change gear or just sit at a max speed of 60km. If it does just max of 60kph it need a new TCU :)

Hey guys, for what it is worth, I had similar problems on a TP Elite Wagon EFI.
I changed the TCU twice, the micro switch on the pedal and only got 15 minutes of success each time.
As a last resort, and I really do not know why I did it, but I changed the throttle body with one I had cleaned ready to fit, before the problems started and since then the car has run flawlessly.
The throttle body included the TPS and steppers as well, this is where the problem was on mine, as to confirm I was not imagining it, I put the old unit back on next day and got all the shift problems back with five minutes of driving, so I changed it back and good as gold once more.
I took it to a trans specialist mate, he said that there was no transmission problems so he flushed it out, did a service and checked the overdrive clutch and said it was all in very good condition and would see the car out.
The car is now with my daughter and it has clocked up 5000+kms without any trans dramas. It might be worth a look at the TPS.

ok I buy my end clutch kits from my local automatic service and repair shop
I find the parts cheaper that way
the V6 kit will differ from the TN 4 cyl

Hi all,
Thanks for your help and suggestions, and thanks to magna-buff for your pm and the extra advice in it.
Just to let you know what I have achieved, and which some may frown on.
I have a friend who had a 93 TR SE 4 cyl and who had the misfortune to be stopped at a round - about and a deadhead in a Falcon hit him from behind at a pretty fast rate and shunted him into the car in front and wrote his TR off. He offered me the end clutch out of it before it went to heaven which I removed and carefully installed it into my car successfully. At this stage it seems to be working perfectly, so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.
Over the years since the 1st generation came on the scene, I have owned quite a few of the TM, TN and TP's but have never had end clutch problems with any of them, so this has been a new experience for me - just shows - you're never too old to learn.
Thanks and regards to all,
Barry.
