Those brackets are far too lightweight for the job. And they appear to be held on by self tapping screws! All I can say is . . . who engineered that?

they are bolted to the chassis not self tapping screws. and yes they brackets are weak. my new ones are alot thicker. so if they break theres something wrong lol

I was under my car the other day looking at the suspension & mine seemed ok but will have another look. Your brackets look like they may be a bit thinner than mine though.
I'm running on medium & handling is pretty neutral, last cruise I got into a controlled four wheel slide, neither under or oversteer.

There is a lot of load on these, after all the action of the suspension is to apply a twisting force to the bar. Lubricate the bush when you put it together, and check the mounts often.

Hey sorry abit off topic - did you notice a BIG diff with the swaybar as lowering the car? or not as major

i did notice a difference with fitting this bar. i did a run before and after on the same road, same day.

Good advice.
My mounting bolts tend to come loose (not the bracket bolts but the tie end bolts) and the bushes need regular lubing else they creak & groan. Just started making these noises again so time for another lube & a check of all the bolts while I'm at it. And I'm only on the middle setting.
And AFAICT I don't drive anywhere near as hard as Dan!

If they are poly bushes only use a grease like Castrol LMM to lube them.
Are standard 3rd gen rear swaybar D brackets an different?

3rd Gen Selby's swaybar brackets look different to that from memory.
holy crap - i've gotta go check the swaybar under our car at lunch today. the D-brackets looked pretty strong when i installed it (though it's a whiteline not a Selbys, and its not on a 380), i'm surprised it just snapped through like that.
contact Selbys and complain. they'll probably be happy to know they need to use thicker brackets and will probably shout you free replacements

Good idea, but Selbys folded a few months ago.
I'm not sure if or who from we can get new brackets, unless someone decided to fabricate a batch or two.
My AWD Selby bar has identical looking mounts....mine are fine....wonder if your bar was shaped up properly to start with....or if its a custom extra heavy duty, may be its to tough and rigid for these mounts?

whiteline/selbys same shit different sticker... i got issues with my rear sway bar as well... i've threaded the bolt for the D bracket, broken the sway bar link off the control arm... thats just some of it...
whiteline use rubbish bolts on the D-brackets too. i sheared one off mine at only 15Nm!
apart from that (which could be called installer error) mines been pretty good :) rear sway bars are a lot of fun

Just noticed that the Selby's website now diverts to the Fulcrum Suspensions website so looks like they may have taken it over. Parts & warranty concerns might be honoured by Fulcrum?

Been getting a creak from the rear end for a while now, when going over speed bumps or doing full lock turns over small bumps.
Checked the rear sway bar and lo & behold, the driver's side mounting bracket was snapped just like Dan's!
Although as I said earlier I don't drive anywhere near as hard as Dan does.
Took it into a suspension joint, they had 'universal' brackets which fitted, replaced them on the spot. Also reset the bar to the softest setting, still hard enough for my style of driving and with any luck will prevent it happening again.

I was one of the first to put one of these bars on & run it on medium & so far haven't had any problems. I checked the other day when I had the car in the air checking tyre/guard clearences & no sign of fatigue on mine.
Bit of other info too, was in at Fulcrum yesterday enquiring about the front poly swaybar bushes & they confirmed they have taken over Selbys & said they have a listing for front Superpro swaybar bushes for the 380 but had R&D next to it which means they haven't actually made them yet. So anyway I told them I want some so they will be making some up on the next pour in the coming weeks. Another win for us 380 drivers

Fooz,
The suspension place I took it to said the problem wasn't with the strength of the bracket itself, but how it was fitted. Apparently the stock bracket is/was bent/angled a bit too 'closed', and it needs to be 'opened up' a bit before fitting. Hard to explain without a pic, but the idea is that the two flat faces of the bracket should not be even/parallel, they should be bent outwards a bit. There is also an issue with some sort of minor protuberance where the bracket mounts, such that the mounting holes need to be enlarged a bit to avoid it. Maybe whoever fitted your bar understood these things and got it right the first time?
By co-incidence it was the same place who fitted my Kings springs about 20 months ago, but they didn't remember/recognise me.
I went there instead of Philcom because they are only 5 minutes from home.
And thanks (again!) for the pioneering work on the front bushes, I can see mine needing replacement again down the track some time.
KJ.

Why thanks KJ I must be a genious coz I fitted it myself lol
Yeah my brackets don't sit flat but are hanging in ok & it does get a flogging especially on some of the recent cruises :ninja: Maybe they had a dodgy batch of brackets & I happened to score a good set??
ah, brings back memories. when installing my swaybar i had to enlarge the bolt holes in both D-brackets with a file before they would fit properly too. opening up the D-bracket for me was a no-go as it's pretty strong and resisted bending with a pair of multi-grips, and i didn't want to go to a bigger tool because i didn't want to break it! seems like Selbys use the same mounting hardware as Whiteline :)

Just a side note re the Superpro front swaybar bushes.
Fulcrum Suspensions rang me yesterday & said they had poured some 380 bushes & want me to bring the car in Tuesday for a R&D test fitment.
I pay for the bushes & they install them for free

Yep sure will, I might get them to check over the rear bar too since they are Selby now & a few people have had issues with the mount breaking.

Fulcrum Suspensions installed my front SuperPro poly bushes today, slight knocking noise is gone & the front feels a bit tighter. They said there was quite a bit of movement in the bar before they pulled the old rubber bushes out.
Also got them to check the Selby rear swaybar mounts for the above problem since they now own Selby & they said they were all good & were surprised when I told them a couple of our members had snapped the brackets in half.

Brad,
Sure did!
Not cheap though, but they do a professional job.
They adjusted mine back to the softest setting 'just to be safe'.
I've now replaced mine with the stock unit, as I'm now a cruiser more than a bruiser, and the Selby bar is up for sale, see the For sale thread.

That's engineering excellence for you! Obviously extensively field tested before being released onto an unsuspecting public.

AND, they come with a full driveway warranty (only warranted if they break on the driveway backing out of the fitting bay).
How solid is that plate/pressing when the D-shackle bolts into? (Given that some AWD's have broken OEM swaybar mounts when a stiffer bar was fitted. This looks stronger?)

all fixed now , simple to fix as i have a pit in the shed...but it shouldn't of happened in the first place.
i've adjusted the swaybar back to the medium setting now..
i replaced all the brackets and bushes on both sides..
for refrence , part numbers are SuperPro
Brackets - SPF0984K
bushes - SPF1450-26K
cost me $29

It seems all the ones that have broken were on the hard setting. Mines on medium still with no issues.

Mine broke on medium setting.
And no way you could say I drove it too hard.
Just a dodgy batch of brackets I reckon, some got the bad ones some got the good ones.

Whiteline d-bar and bolts were shite according to heasmans so they replaced with high tensile items on mine
