Yo dogz.

So a while back my TR started screwing me around. Specs are its a 93 TR Magna, 4cyl carbz, auto, less than 200,000 on the clock.

Problem is, i'll be driving along, last time it took around 30mins before it happened, and I had to flog it to 90kph, but its happened earlier and at less amounts of force than that. Everything will be cool, till suddenly it'll feel like it drops out and then when i hit the throttle it revs freely without putting any drive to the wheels.

Solution im going with is, I called a few auto tranny places, recieving mixed messages, some telling me i'll need a tranny recon (around 1800 ) and some shit to do with overdrive which changed nothing. A couple of places including the last have told me its an electrical problem, as when i park it and then restart the car, everythings fine again, and told me to go to an auto electrician and get a computer scan. So i've booked it in to get diagnostics run on tuesday morning and hoping for some answers..

How does this all sound to you guys, plausible, or am i making a mistake and wasting time and money?

if overdrive is on over 70 km/h and it starts to rev out and loose drive

thats the end clutch friction discs worn

thats an easy fix..... gearbox stays in the car

does the box operate normally below 70 kmph with overdrive off

if electrical ..disconnect the battery terminals for a few minutes
this resets the computers to default

if its an electrical fault, I mean just suggesting this here but might be a crap connection on one of the plugs somewhere....visual inspection of plugs will confirm it.
The electrical side is alot easier to check then to start ripping apart the box. Although being an auto its totally DIY to swap it around with another transmission (worst case)

hmm, probably best to just let them check it and cut my losses if its something stupid. until today i was under the impression my car didnt have an ecu, and that just shows my awesome level of understanding on the matter.

sorry didnt see your post before, nah it isnt just above 70, once its happened it goes around 50kph and overdrive makes no difference to the situation. the battery terminals have been disconnected multiple times for different reasons including the battery at one point having gone completely flat so im sure the reset has happened but not fixed anything.

update:

had to get a new battery the night before the scan because it was stuffed and shorting. went for the scan and they found nothing. since then have been driving the car, and has happened twice, but i've driven quite a bit before the problems happened. I've been referred to another auto elec and told to get them to check the crank sensor and the coil pack. does this make sense?
