Personally I would leave it to the pros as a towbar has to be attached to the cars chassis

I bought a VRX towbar off ebay for my standard tl AWD- did it myself- bigger job than I expected- had to remove rear bumper and the crash bar behind it as well as drop the rear muffler off completely. Not a difficult job, just a hassle to take all the bits off. Compared to the fit up on my wifes 2008 Lancer- fifteen minutes- NOTHING had to be removed from the car at all- just postion the towbar up behind the plastic bumper- slot the large bolts in from the side- run up the bottom bolts - done. Magna - a couple of hours in the home situation- but the pros would do it in a lot less.

Bought one from an AMC member for my 2005 VRX and fitted it including the plug and play wiring in around 2 hours.

I have a 05 VRX as well with the rear bar, i take it some sawing is needed to attach said tow bar?

Also, is there a wiring diagram to fit the power plug?

mine came with the mitsubishi wiring loom, just unplug the connectors both sides of the boot and plug the loom in with the piggy back plugs. Yes i had to cut the bumper with the suppllied template but that was easy with a pair of tin snips.

have you got a copy of the template? or know where i can get from as i picked up one second hand and need to cut out bottom of bar.
Also does anyone know part number for this plug and play wiring loom?

Its dead easy Terry, no need to remove bumper just jack the rear up really high(be safe now!) on axle stands and pop the muffler off its mounts and push it as far to the ground as possible. Its not necessary, but If you want to remove the muffler completely its quite easy at the rear flange and makes the install a bit easier again.Just use a trolley jack to offer it up to the car and to help in cutting the bumper.Eight bolts from memory and the nuts are already welded in the body of the car . Just buy a universal flat wire plug kit and attach to the tailight wiring with scotch locks. Theres a wiring diagram in the manual which is on this forum somewhere i think? Standard t/bars do require the b/bar to be cut a fair bit unfortunatley but a custom made t/ bar is not dramatic if the cutting bothers you.

The genuine Mitsubishi trailer harness is a smart harness to enable interaction with the parking sensor kit. Basically if you have a trailer connected the parking sensors are automatically disabled.

Further I have heard stories of all kinds of strange results when people wire these up, getting the genuine part is so much easier.

I bought a genuine towbar of e-bay and fitted it to my SX in a couple of hours.
