Hi there,
Seems my car (Verada Xi 2000) needs a major service, took it GoodYear Auto care.. was quoted nearly $1,400
I have been taking care of this car like baby, and decided to do the major service myself after reading the threads here.
I want the best of the items .. could you help me finding the right brand and model u would recommend.....and also if you know where i can find it cheaper..
Air Filter
Platinum Spark Plugs (How many do i need)
Leads(How many do i need)
H3 Globes for Fog Light
Automatic Antenna
Middle Muffler
Thanks in advance,..

Remember if it's the Major service you're also due for the Timing Belt, in which case it's best to do the full kit with the seals and pulleys. If it's 200,000km you'll wanna do the water pump, or even at 100,000 if you wanna be sure...

The timing belt was done when it hit 100,000kms, its now 130,000kms.. and requires another service...
I just wanted to know the Brand and model you recommend for the above parts... thanks

Air Filter: Either K&N or Ryco
Plugs: NGK or Bosch, just make sure you get the ones with the right Gap
Leads: Bosch
Globes: Phillips, Narva (if you want to go cheap just generic will be fine really)
Automatic Antenna: Any really.
Middle Muffler: Lukey
These are brands i am extremely happy with, i have used all these and never had an issue. As for model numbers i would just go whatevers cheapest at your local Sprint, Motortraders or Autobarn.

It's a V6 so quantity 6. Due to the intake required to be removed to gain access to the rear spark plugs, Mitsubishi fitted long life(100 000K) platinums in the rear and conventional for the front hence the different types. I can't see any reason why you could not use the platinums in the front as well, just more expensive that's all.

I would recommend some Platinums all the way around so when you have to do the plugs you can do them all at once. As for the leads you might need a 7th one to run to the coil (i had to in my Falcon but i havent worked on my magna as of yet so im not too sure) but if thats the case it will be included in the packet aswell.

dont do it.
Pod filter down low = sucking water into the engine which causes hydrolocking
Genuine mitsubishi filters are the best, no gains have been proven using anything else

There's no difference between a genuine filter and a Ryco/AC Delco replacement? Wouldn't be surprised if one of those companies actually made the genuine filter.

ah ok well that's not a major service then, if they want $1400 to do that list and an oil change they're kidding themselves!

Without sounding like an ass hole, if you don't know how many cylinders your car has you probably shouldn't be undertaking this work.
My first purchase in this case would be a Gregory's service manual. It outlines everything a beginner needs to know, with illustrations :)

and if it had the timing belt done at 100k,why weren't the plugs replaced then...??

why do you want to replace the leads? i just pulled a motor out of a TE with 300,000kms on it (was running perfect, just upgraded from 3L to 3.5L) and it had its factory fitted leads working fine... 130,000kms id reckon your leads would be fine.. unless its running badly?
as someone else said, if your not sure about how many cylinders the car has maybe you should do alot of homework before touching the car (read read read) as the rear plugs involve removing the intake manifold which is easy for some but other struggle...

Thanks for your help guys... i did google Gregory service manual but with no luck.. could help me locate it or where to find it.

I am really not sure, the car was just rough idling when on lights and would create vibration, showing it to Goodyear was recommended to change the whole spark plugs.

Goodyear said it requires a change of leads as well.. which will cost $170. I did thought to first get it repaired by the mechanic, but with this sort of cost, and to save my pocket i decided to do it myself. Can u recommend any cheap mechanic?

Here you go... http://www.computeroutpost.com.au/store/item.asp?code=GR272
Don't scoff at the price...it's a valuable tool with all the information you could ever need :). That $50 may one day save you from destroying $1000+ worth of engine. I'm sure you could find it cheaper, but now you know what the cover looks like. You can download the genuine Mitsubishi manual for free but the Gregory's is more informative about actual procedure than specification.

my TW came with the more expensive long-life ones in all 6, from the factory, works fine.

If you want to get new ignition leads, I recommend the following:
http://www.eagleproducts.com.au/products_leads.php
Catalogue here:
http://www.eagleproducts.com.au/pdf/Eagle_Catalogue.pdf
They are a ferrite spiral core conductor lead, which is far superior in terms of power delivery compared to silicon leads like Bosch etc. They are 1300 ohms/m for the Eliminator series which you want, unlike the Bosch Sports leads which are around 5000 ohms/m. They are a virtually no RF noise lead, unlike other low resistance leads.
I'd also recommend doing the power steering fluid (easy to do yourself), automatic transmission, and brake fluid. The last 2 are easier to be done at a good mechanic.

If your automatic aerial mast is broken, or the motor turns but it won't go up and down, this is the replacement mast:
http://www.aerpro.com.au/list.php?pcode=AP253&cat_name=antennas&cat_no=13&product_name=Mitsubishi+Magna+TE-TW+96-05,+Pajero+NA-NL+83-99+-+Replacement+Mast&cat_sno=576
And JB sell it for $35: http://www.jbcommercial.com.au/secure/index.cfm?cata_id=376716
There are threads on here about how to do the job (its really easy).
A new genuine full replacement (including motor etc) is about $110.
Repco have their own brand of air/fuel/oil filters for Magnas.
I bought my Gregory's manual at Autopro for about $40. They are essential if you want to anything on your car.
Have fun :-)
