hey all my ralliart has devloped a shudder some where. it is there when the car sits on about 2000rpm when driving along but only sometimes how ever when it is under aceleration it is there constantly no matter what the revs are especially when going up a hill. it also shudders when going down a hill with no acceleration. the shudder doesnt shake the steering wheel at all but i can feel it thru the acelerator pedal.

Sounds like a CV joint or the inner joint on the driveshaft (and/or the bearing on the equal length shaft that runs from the gearbox to the side of the engine on the driverside). Both my car (years ago) and Mikes magna (last year) have had a shudder the same as you described and both were fixed buy getting the joints changed.

You decide. Get under the car and check how much play there is in the inner cv joints and transfer shaft bearing.
If you find more than a mm play up and down it needs fixing asap. You could get both wheels off the ground and rev the engine in gear to see what is flopping about. Safety first though.

Turn the front wheels - engine off, wheels off ground - and look for tight spots. Shudder on trailing throttle is classic for a cv joint that has gone dry and is binding.

None of those traits were evident when my magna was shuddering.....It was when i pulled the "inner" joint (not the outter CV) to pieces that i saw how stuffed it was (the rollers on the cross piece of the inner joint where shagged). Luckily i have plenty of spare manual drive shafts for my car that i can fix/change over when i need
