So I just got my TJ boot lid and tail lights onto my TF, and it looks super but now I'm faced with the problem of the only access to my boot is via punching the button in the glovebox or the remote. I'd like to have the option of using a key, problem is that on first inspection, it doesn't look to me like I can disassemble the lock's guts and swap them out with each other.

I've yet to find a manual on doing so. Maybe my Google-fu isn't a strong as I'd like to think it is.

As it stands, I'm beginning to think that my best option would be to just buy a new lock set all around for the car. Doors, boot, and ignition. I've no idea if the keys themselves have a transponder or not. I'm going to assume that there's no differences in the lock sets between the TF and TJ series beyond the boot lock.

So, is it possible to have the lock re-keyed, either by myself (I've done a lot of re-keys for house locks, so they don't phase me) or by a pro, or should I just locate a fresh set of locks all the around? And if so, where do I look?

If you have the lock from the old boot, it is held in by 2 bolts, accessed from the inside of the boot. its just a matter of taking your old one out and fitting it to the new boot. I did this today!

Close but no cigar, mate. The TJ boot lid has a diff lock than the TF. The mounting flange for the TF is located at the back end of the cylinder, and is perpendicular, as opposed to the TJ, which has the flange in a diagonal position towards the front end of the cylinder.

I wish it was that easy! Looking again at the cylinders, they appear to be stamped shut, and therefore by my capability, I don't see myself even considering attempting a re-key personally.

Back when i was little and first got my magna, the key didn't open the boot. My parents took the lock and keys to a locksmith and got the boot lock changed and some spare keys cut while i was at school. The boot still doesn't line up though =(

Well, the bloke I bought my boot lid from has got most of his car left sitting, so I'm looking to buy up all of his locks and what not as well as a heap of other stuff.

just get the TJ boot lock re keyed or you will then have coding issues etc, not worth the hassle

I didn't realize the TF had a transponder in the key. Thank you!
