Are they worth the time and paper the report is written on????

I have a knock that seems to come and go from the front suspension. Tried to replicate it with the mech but it seems to come and go as it pleases

I remember having a Pedders Suspension check done on one of my earlier cars. It came up as needing suspension work (surprise surprise) and they quoted me some massive bill.
I didn't have the money at the time so had no choice but to drive the car away, thinking I was driving a death trap.
Some time later, after I had saved some $$$, I dropped the car into a different tyre/suspension place. They told me the Pedders report was good, it helped them as well, but it wasn't as doom & gloom as the Pedders place had said it was and their solution & cost was overboard. I ended up getting a couple of new shocks and something else and saved heaps compared to the Pedders quote.

Since then, I have wondered a few times if it'd be worth getting the Suspension Check done at Pedders even though you may not intend on getting any work done by them.
Do they still give you the printed out report?

There was a thread about knocking, usually over gutters and speed humps.

If this is the case I'll search a bit harder for you. It might be the issue you are experiencing.

Have you checked out the front sway bar bushes?

Common on 380s for them to wear out fairly quickly, some in less than 20,000k, others not until 100,000k, seems to vary quite a bit.

Mine gave up the ghost at around 30,000k and the front end started knocking, clunking & groaning.

New bushes are cheap as chips from a Mitsu dealer but can be a small PITA to fit, as the front sway bar mounting bolts are very tight and a little difficult to get at.

Had mine replaced by my exhaust shop guy, only charged me $30 IIRC.

And I've heard mainly bad things about Pedders, advise you steer clear of them (terrible pun intended!).

If it's a knock when going over speed humps then there's a chance it's the sway bar link pins that connect the sway bar to the control arm. That's what it was on my TR years ago. The boots usually perish and the joints get sloppy. Third gen has the same sway bar setup and probably easy enough to look at yourself. Shocks would probaly make the noise all the time at least they did on my TW on rough roads. Now replaced and much quieter.

i notice a slight knock in my 380 also but didn't really think anything till i put the stock wheels back on and the knocking was still there but not as loud, i just assumed it was the heavier 20" wheels that were making it knock (only on un even road surfaces and dodgey road repairs). But if a few guys 380's are doing it even with the stock wheels on may have to get it looked at

I got a feeling mine are starting to go too, with the new coilovers coming I'll go down & get some polyurathane bushes installed anyway. (59,000km)

I think the Pedders suspension check is well worth it. i agree don't get your work done by them but they have all the tech to do a good check over everything..

they do a good wheel alignment too as they read off plates on the ground rather than the actual settings. so they can tell where your car is going and adjust accordingly.
