g'day guys,
ok well i dunno if this is a problem or not but, when i drive, the car over revs to change into gear. it started last week im pretty sure. Eg: i was slowly accelerating and i'm pretty sure it went to the second gear. then i was at a stable speed on a straight road and i could see that i was at around 2100 revs or so and without stepping on the accelerator the car automatically increased the revs to like 3000 or so and then changed gear.
i was like wtf??? cause i didnt accelerate anymore it just increased it itself like it had a mind of its own or somehting lol. so i stoped fully and then took of again and it did that for every gear. so i dunno am i jus realising that maybe the car has always been like this or is there something wrong with the transmission or something??
also: i checked my atf and it was like empty hahahah i was like OW SHi* so i filled it up but i didnt know how much of the bottle would make it full so i put the whole thing in. now when the engine heated up the new atf i dunno it must have expanded or somehting cause it is like about 10 cm above the max line. could this be the problem. Do you think that this will be fixed when i get my major done?
That would be transmission slipping, I would get it flushed at a dealer ASAP! This was my first sign before the box blew (I now have 3 usable gears out of 4, 4th is smashed, and 3rd is slipping badly but still drivable).

well, i was hoping it wasnt too bad but bugger :( how much does it cost to get a new transmission. and if i get the transmission flushed will this stop the problem?
If you catch it early and flush it you shouldn't do too much (if any) damage, so definately get a flush!
As for cost of new transmission a rebuild is $3.5-4k, wrecker replacement around $400+fitting, or manual conversion around $2k fitted. So I would act quick and get it flushed, I think the cost is about $180 from a mits dealer.

Should NEVER EVER EVER overfill AFT liquid (there is some tolerance of course), auto operates on hydraulic pressure principle so liquid will epxand when in operation casue excessive pressure within the box, too much liquid NOT GOOD definitely especially if its that much! will cause more slippage, damage your seals & overheat the transmission, just bleed it out ASAP of the sump till it reaches normal amount. U can get reconditioned gearbox fitted for about 1500 - 1700. I did my a while ago, im my case it was the pump that died.....

hey, i googled the nearest mitsubishi dealer and it was in like brisbane?? is that true? isnt there any around the gold coast?
Look in the yellow pages - we were at SeaWorld the other day and I'm sure I noticed a Mitsu sign at Nerang or somewhere there.

Whats the bet the mechanic hands you a bag full of metal shards when he tries to do the flush. 3rd gen autos are evil for having a ring that sits around a pressure cuff or something shattering... After its done that you basically get a new gearbox or drive around until the bits of metal make their way through the foam filter and say gday to your transfer case.
Fortunately ive been driving around with mine like that for over 30,000km now... unfortunately however, it has a toll on fuel efficiency and performance.

I think you mean oil pump... The wave spring fails and shards jam the oil pump, and with no pump pressure there is no gearbox functionality... Also, where the hell is the transfer case on a FWD?! A transfer case is for 4WD's and AWD's to transfer power to both front and rear axles!
