Hi guys,
I've got a bit of dilemma with my 94 TS v6 magna. Currently its done about 288,000 kms, and some things need to be done. Timing belt, seals, water pump and valve seals. Now the smoke is starting to show and you can smell it as well. I've been quote from mechanic for about 1300 for the whole lot.
I've also gone to another mechanic and he reckons I only need to do a belt change and nothing else and he'll charge bout 400-500. What do you guys think? Advice?
Thanks in advance!

Thats most of the work you'd need to get done to keep it goin for a while.. and its not the worst price i've seen either so if it were me, I'd do all of what the first mechanic said, if u like the car and the tranny is still good, i say it's worth spending the money on

Same as mine, TS V6 with 240,000 Km on it. Replaced the timing belt ($40), seals ($20) but not the idler or water pump. Reworked the heads with new exhaust valves, valve guide inserts, valve stem seals and all new hydraulic lifters ($1,200). Now runs like a (almost) new one. Worth doing but only if you can supply the dismantle/assemble labour yourself. Mind you, you can spend $2-3 K on a gen 3 that looks mint and has the same problems. Your choice.

Gonna keep the car for a few more years? Do it..
Going to sell it soon? Run it into the ground.

Try sell it, add your 1300 to it and get a 3rd gen

Give me a call for a quote, I am sure I can do this far cheaper than you have been quoted, not much more than the second quote in fact including stem seasl!!
IF the rest of the car is reasonable why trash it now???
