G'day everyone, just wondering if it's possible to replace the dizzy o-ring on a V6 without screwing up or having to reset the timing?

It's not leaking heaps but needs to be replaced before it starts gushing..

use something to mark the body of the distributor were it meets metal of the head. Something like a sharp knife does well. Do this before you unbolt the distributor, that way you can line it up when you put it back on.

Should I also mark the position of the rotor button? any idea what a mech would charge to do this?

Take the distributor cap off, and then turn the engine to top dead centre, using the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley. The rotor should point to the number 1 piston ignition lead if the distributor cap was still on. Mark this on the body of the distributor, if there is no obvious mark there. When you lift the distributor out look at which way the rotor turns, then make sure you use this position when you put it back so that it lines up with the mark you made.

A mechanic could do this in 10 minutes if you supply the o ring, and he would definitely charge you $14,378.99

(possibly a joke, that last bit, yes?)

Thanks, quite some potential to stuff things up, might get a quote first then decide..

That's a bit like ringing up a Mitsubishi dealer and asking if the workshop can arrange a home visit . . . . . .

I'm a bit disappointed you (the op) aren't prepared to tackle this job yourself after all the details I gave you. To each his own I guess.
