You want to upgrade a FWD to AWD?

It's Impossible. :( The biggest problem is the chassis/undertray is different. This is because of the extra space required for the front->rear wheel drive shaft, along with all the other bits required.

Start with an AWD and transplant the ralliart parts to it would be the better option.

Yep. Cant be done cheaply. Better off buying a cheap tj/tl AWD magna and transplanting the
engine, etc to the new car.

Also it wont give you better power to weight ratio??
it will be about 250 kilos heavier!!
best leave a good thing alone.
or wack a ralliart engine in an awd.

so it looks like i'll have to buy another ralliart to pull apart and the awd. bugger.

AWD has diff firewall (from diamante)
plus diff gearbox and drive shaft (from evo6)
plus rear lsd
plus diff rear brakes
plus diff rear fuel bladder
plus diff abs setup
plus diff exhaust line
plus (and this is important) diff badges and stickers :P
and no T/L...
and ur 17" x 7" rims wont fit around those famed 'rear stearing knuckles' on the AWD.

now... putting a Ralliart engine in an AWD... thats something i would be interested in seeing!

But the all wheel drive VRX comes out in July. Don't know the power out yet but should be worth the look.

WSDsmurf

tru... TL AWD VRX is coming...
there is one now at Phillip Mitsubishi Canberra without compliance plates...

Its still got the same grunt (159kw) i think...doh. (stilldown from 163 2wd)
and its still got the 16" rims limitations....double doh.
and its still got the TL nose.... doh doh doh.

but it does have .... electric seats?

(or u could save 20grand... go buy a TJ AWD 2nd hand... and spend the 20grand making it into ralliart beating AWD Booyah mobile :P)

But i have to wonder on the rim limitation. if its a 16x6 then you can go all the way to 20x6 and it would still fit. Remember the tyre is still as wide as the rim so the entire height of the rim and tyre cannot foul the knuckle...

Of course finding a 20x6 rim is gonna be impossible ;) and then to even find a tyre to suit :bowrofl:

If RPW can be believed then their stage 1 mods give more power to a engine than the ralliart. all you are really missing on the AWD is the body kit. Too bad no-one makes that one huh.

Thats what I have also read, that it's the wheel width thats the problem with steering knuckle clearance. I wonder if you could play with diferent offsets (or as a last resort wheel spacers) to push the wheels away from the hub to increas clearance  ...but of course this is prolly all illegal.

i wouldnt bother transplanting a ralliart engine into an awd, they only put out 180kw or something, for the money it would cost ya, you could probably get the rpw twin turbo kit, now that would be something to see :-)

Phonic

The twin turbo kit costs about 12 grand, a transplant would cost way less, all depends on the price of a ralliart engine :D

What do you mean by my Ralliart has only got semi-extractors ??

What is the difference between say the Ralliart extractors and the extractors you sell ??

How much extra performance would i get by buying RPW extractors ?? Is it worth doing ??

I was doing a bit of hunting around and there is a mivec awd half cut coming into the country soon at one of the jap wreck importers for about $3600. it is a "6G72 Mivec auto 1/2 cut Diamante for $3,600" might be worth your while. oh hang on got it the wrong way round you don't have the AWD. any way if any one is interested..... can't buy it myself just bought another race bike... stupid huh.

Which yard was that in? There's two yards I know off with the Mivec engine. Any ideas on number of km's? That's a better price than the yard I know of. Didn't realise the Mivec was available with the AWD drive train. I know the GDI was available with AWD. I presume it will be an auto?

There is a AWD Diamante in nihon ... but it has the 3.0L engine right... not 3.5L.

I think there were some 30M's that were AWD in japan Redav...but I'm not 100% sure on that.

nihon=nippon=japan...

not sure on the details of diamante engines... but i thought they were all 3.0L... (isnt mmal the only one that uses 3.5L ??).

They have always had AWD versions in japan ... for the snow.. and wear windscreen wipers too. (i miss my rear windscreen wiper... snow or no snow).

As part of the testing for TJawd here they brought out a japanese spec DiamanteAWD to compare.

Yeah, go the rear windscreen wiper. The Diamante also had the 2.5l GDI engine. I know it was available as an AWD as I know someone who has one. I also know someone with a 3.0l Mivec Diamante but it's FWD. I'm asking him if he knew if they had an AWD Mivec. They might not because the GDI replaced the Mivec but we'll see.

they definately used the 3.5L in GDI spec in Japan.... but i've never found a 3.5 MIVEC in a D' or magna!

they have recently canned the 3.5 over they're though (at least in the D's) and only use 2.5 and 3L GDI's
