Hi all,

As the title says Im looking at possibly getting a 2000 TJ Manual Sports. I guy at work wants too of load it and will accept $5000. Its bog stock (bonus), has done 133000km and has 10 months rego.

As some may know my old faithful TE with 280 000km is getting on and now consuming a bit of oil. It would be nice too step into something with less km. more grunt, sharper handling for not a lot of dough. The car has a full service history and the 100 000km service has been done which included the rear plugs and T belt.

To me its a no brainer if the car checks out mechanically and has a complete service history. Price seems fair, certainley not a bargain. This could be good reliable cheap motoring. What do you guys think?

That's a very good deal, particularly considering the low kms, the service history, and that it's going to be a while before the next major scheduled service. Like you say, if it all checks out, it's a no-brainer.

Sounds like a great deal but if you have minimal mechanical knowledge it will pay off to bring a mechanic with you just to give it a once over.

If you are in Vic I am happy to have a look at it for you and give it a good once over

Thanks for the generous offer Madmagna. Unfortunately the car is in the ACT and Im in NSW. Got a few days leave next week and was going to be in the ACT anyway, so will check it out.

After 11 years and over 260 000km of 3rd gen ownership, I have a fair idea of the obvious mechanical things to look for. Some advice on how the ABS, Crusise Control, and leccy windows fare after 10 years would be handy. Do the Manual Sports have transmission or clutch issues beyond what you get on a base model?

Sounds like a good buy. Mines a 2000 model with 97k and everything still works like new so no worries with ABS, cruise etc. There was a recall done on the drivers door window reg in April 2003 (only remember the date because it was around the time mine first son was born) should be a field report sticker on the door pillar inside drivers door opening. Can't help you with advice on clutch or gearbox as mines an auto but if its been looked after and the service history is there it shouldn't give you any worries.
