Why is it that 6x9's installed into the rear shelf display poor low end !

I have tried in phase, out of phase, cranked the Bass up, Amped them, Un-amped them.

Its not like they are a poor choice of 6x9 either...

A friend has lent me a set of kicker 6x9's to trail as a replacement for the stock ones I currently have, and I have to say, apart from a treble boost and clearer mid-range the low end is no better then stock..

Anyone else hit this problem ???

I mean I have installed 6x9's into Commodores, Falcons, Camry's and even a Pulsar hatch and all displayed superior low end response compared to the Magna.

Are they vented into the boot? Have you got stuff in the boot, like an LPG tank?

Nah the boot is empty.. Speakers are sealed into the shelf, just like the stock ones. They have plenty of midrange but no low end...

I'm going to say the head unit is shit. What are you running?

I can't remember all the parcel shelves mentioned above but I know the Magna one had holes galore and is pretty thin sheet metal.

Mount them in the rear doors lol.

You know my thoughts on 6x9's and subs.....

Yea with subs i wouldnt worry about low end with the 6*9's, just high pass them.

Nah they pump. Just gotta make sure they're screwed in tight - might even consider using a bolt and tighten from the boot (much easier).

Yeah I don't suggest using 'Loud' or 'Bass Boost' to solve your bass issues.

Gonna stick with Stockies... If not I am just gonna whack entry level Fusions into the holes. I am not gonna dump $150+ Speakers into those holes if they wont perform the way I want them to.
I still have the 10 inch in the boot... but need rear fill that wont fall apart..

I have to agree with Magnat. Whatever the reason behind it there is little bass to be had. It's not due to head deck quality in my case...I run an XXV-01D.

It was only a problem for 2 days until I installed my fronts and sub anyway :) but certainly noticeable.

Thanks Munky I thought I was the only one who thought that the Rear shelf rolls the Bass off too quickly.

Have you tried mounting them in MDF baffles? I found a noticeable improvement in bass when I did it to mine.

MDF Baffles on the rear shelf ?? um How... the tweeter bridge of the 6x9 already hits the stock grill..
