Rang Mitsi today for a change of address on one of my cars and got them to check the state of recalls on the VIN numbers i have.....just in case something has slipped past my attention.
The service advisor said there have only been two service bulletins, not recalls.
-2005 some units had a fuel rail tension modification for intermittent CEL's
-2008 about a hundred units were flagged to have the rear fuel tank strap checked for tension.
They informed me that there have been ZERO recalls on the 380 model.
Must be a record for an aussie built car.....anyone know any different?

Never heard of any recalls.
Thanks for the heads up about the fuel rail tension bulletin. Mine's a 2005 model and there is a slight chance that this (possibly insufficient tension on the fuel rails) is what's causing both my ticking noise and the recent batch of 'misfiring cylinder' CELs. Those codes haven't reappeared since I erased them a week ago. I'll drop in to my local Mitsu dealer (who I bought it from) tomorrow and check this out, surely they'll know if my car was 'fixed' or not.

OK, dropped into my dealer, explained about my ticking noise, the error codes and the fuel rail tension service bulletin, and got nowhere fast!
They searched their database of service bulletins and found nothing. The senior mechanic knew about the problem with lower injector spacers/seals, but he reckoned he'd never heard of any problem let alone a service bulletin about 380 fuel rail tension. He intimated I had no idea what I was talking about and proceeded to say that the 380 was built in the US! I gave up at that point.
I've searched the Web and I can't find any trace of this elusive service bulletin.
Might try a different dealer.

Ha ha thats what happened with my Pajero. I had this weird surging problem & saw on the Pajero Club forums that there was an upgrade to the latest model NT intake manifold which they did as a last resort. Anyway mine had been in two times & I mentioned the manifold upgrade & the young upstart Service Manager with coloured cum in his hair proceeded to tell me don't believe what you read on forums & the Pajero never had a manifold problem only the Triton .......... anyway on the next visit with the same problem a NT Pajero manifold kit was ordered & guess what no more problems.
No sign of the dipshit service manager either!!

There are two different kinds of recalls. The first is submitted by a manufacturer because they care about their customer’s safety such as the two that MMAL had with the 380. The second type of recall I believe is when the manufacturer has been forced to conduct recall by the relevant federal body.
Some people do not class the voluntary recalls as a true recall.

Of course it is a true recall - I don't think you understand how the system works. A recall is a genuine safety issue and it is irrelevant whether or not it is voluntary. Every manufacturer needs to comply with the law and make consumer products that are safe (see trade practices act). Of course an organisation can be ordered to issue a recall - but in most cases the supplier will do it voluntarily to minimise liability and the authorities forcing them to take satisfactory action.

You are both right depending on your POV
unlike Toyota

Due to lack of anyone quoting other "recalls" I am assuming that there are no others that anyone knows about?
Cause that is stuff all recall after 5 years me thinks.

I reckon MMAL should have issued a full recall for all power window regulators and replaced the lot of them.

It's cheaper for MMAL to replace the ones that fail, rather than recalling and replacing all of them. Its not a safety feature, it isn't likely to kill anyone, so they can do it that way. With any mechanical complex device there may be problems with the design or manufacture of components, and it takes a while for these problems to surface. Toyota is having a lot of problems at the moment because they did a large batch of new designs a few years ago and that's now coming back to bite them. Live with it, we have no choice.
A smart car buyer will never buy the first of a new model, a stingy buyer (like me) will look for a 10 year old low km car in good condition because the value is low and any problems have been ironed out by previous owners.

Then again you have people like me that have had 8 lease 380's of series 1, 2 and 3,
also 6x 380's of various badges in the family and not one window regulator incident.
All I have had is a 6G75 motor fail....LOL
