Sorry to almost certainly rehash a probably fairly tired subject, but I just spent like 30 minutes lurking old pages and couldn't find any answers, so I thought I'd start a new thread!
I'm trying to help my girlfriend out with her '95 TS Magna so she can save some money, but basically neither of us knows very much about cars.... at all. If I could grab a little bit of friendly advice (or perhaps someone could point me in the direction of a thread or two already covering this issues) that'd be great!
The first problem I'm having is that her normal headlights seem to have diminished quite a bit in terms of luminosity, and they're also angled down quite badly and don't reach very far out on the road at all. I had a little poke around just before and noticed two screws on top of the headlight case with arrows pointing to "D" and "U", and I am assuming they're for adjusting each light "Down" or "Up", right? If so... well they didn't do anything. If not, I'm a bit foolish lol
Is there anything else I need to be doing to adjust the height of the lights?
Also, how do I go about replacing these lights/which are the correct lights? I have my eyes on some 12V H4 superwhite 100W xenon lights, they're quite cheap, will they work?

The second problem is that my girlfriend's dad said he noticed the other night that one of her brake lights is out. Now again, excuse my horrendous lack of motor vehicular knowledge, but I would have assumed that the brake lights were behind those little red light cases on the inside of each tail light, but one is slightly cracked open and I had a peek inside and there's no light there? Do the tail lights just become more bright when the brake is engaged in this type of car? And if so, the same question applies as for the headlights, how do I remove and replace this bulb and what type is it?

Apologies for the large post (and on my first too) but I'm really quite stumped, the car's workshop manual doesn't seem to offer much help either.
Thanks guys!

Hey, welcome aboard!

For the head lights you could try replace them with something from your local auto stote, just show them the current bulb and they will help find something that fits.
As for removing the lights you will need to pop the Bennett and have a look at the back of the light assembleys, there is possibly a rubber cover around the wires, pull that back and you should see the light is held in by a small piece of wire simply unclip that and remove the bulb. Don't ever touch the glass, the oil from your fingers might break it next time you use the lights.

With the break lights just pull back the carpet in the boot behind the lights and untwist the lights, replace them with something from your local auto shop. You can touch these, they don't get very hot.

Good luck

Do not use 100W bulbs, use the standard H4 60/55 bulb that is in there. The lack of brightness may be caused by either very old globes, or chrome in the reflector housing being diminished away, or even fogginess in the lens (common on 2nd gens)

Brake lights will be a standard BA21s 21/5w globe, commonly sold in packs of 2 and very very cheap. Very easy to get to them at the back, probably need a philips head screwdriver at most.

Check all the other bulbs while you are there as-well. Parker globe I think in the rear AND front is a T10 type although I might be confusing that for the reverse light. Either way do a full light check and replace any other ones as-well that may be blown or discolored

For Globes go something like Phillips 50+ or 80+ or i have had better results with Narva Blue Power globes although they are abit pricier. Then the next step is to get more length out of them and if they are anything like 3rd Gen Magnas, they will have to long plastic screws that you are meant to turn. This never worked on my standard ones only on my Parras i found for my standard ones they is a little allen key insert on top of the case itself and this is how it worked for me.

Thanks a lot for all the information, exactly what I've needed, much appreciated.
Peaandham, are you referring to changing the height/position of the bulbs? Is it done by those little screws that say D and U? Because try as I might, I couldn't get any action out of them at all..

is that the one where a socket fits over it? that could make it easier to turn. as for seeing the results, its easiest to have the car facing a blank wall somewhere dark or at night. just dont adjust them too high or they could end up pointing at peoples rearview mirrors
