Instead of the usual tinting of taillights, i'm thinking of painting the reflectors in my lights black a la TL VRX. What's the best way to open them up/reseal them, would I put them in the oven like what has been reccomended for the headlights or are they held together differently?

I used a good hairdryer
and thin bladed screwdrivers in the grooves
you apply the heat in sections till the
lenze eases apart from the glue
takes a long time and lots of patience

Or stick them in an oven, does a better job of melting the glue and is much much quicker.

Thanks for the replies, what would be a reccomended temp for the oven so as not to melt the plastic?

I would also like to know as I have some plans for my Wagon lights, need to remove the lens before I can proceed though

Start on the lowest setting first off! that would be my suggestion.
Make sure the plastic isnt touching the metal of the oven racks either - once these heat up they will start to melt little grooves into the light.... unless you wanted to go for the textured melted look?
Check FREQUENTLY - do NOT go off and read a magazine or make a coffee etc, keep you eye on it at all times.
if you find on the lowest setting, step it up a bit - but check more often so as not to melt the assemblies.
Please post pictures of the work too :)

Yeh i tried this a few years back.. didnt work the way i wanted lol
I put them in the oven for 15 mins on about 80deg, i watched them like a hawk. When i pulled them out the frame of the lens warped and the glue was still too hard to remove
I woul say maybe pre-heat oven at about 120deg and put lights in for 20 second stints, and try not to touch the light too much as it may warp

i did this to my KE tail lights first get a heat gun go around the outter edge of the light about 1 to 2 inches away from the lense (dont hold in one place for to long or u will melt ur lense and it looks like S**T) keep going around till the glue is soft then just get a screw driver and carefully pull the lense off the backing...... reglueing them i used sikaflex it works a treat.. hope that helps

Guessing here that you could glue them back with the old glue being a heat type glue, this would mean that they could come apart agian if needed in the future

Thinking I might get a second set of lights to do this, that way if i screw it up (a likely thing with me) I still have some good lights.

yep... just tried doing this today. Watched a tutorial on youtube. It said to heat the lights in the oven for 8 mins on 200 deg. I did this for 5 mins... the glue barely softened and the whole bloody light warped in several places!!!
I suggest the heatgun and razor blade trick next time
