Anyone ever had to remove the grey plastic door strips or what I call door bump strips on the TJ? I want to remove mine and have them colour coded to the car, I'm told when you remove them they have tend to bend or break. If anyone has done this please let me know how hard it is to remove them and to replace them.

my mates a spray-painter an did my side skirts and those door trims your talkin about, he said not to remove them cause you'll have trouble sticking them back on, can't get double sided tape strong enough or somethin. mask them up and paint them while they're on the car. :D

one of mine starting come off, and eventually fell off. Getting the rest of the gluey **** off before i could put on the new one that i bought from mitsu ($16) was such a ****ing ***** of a job!!
Took me hours, getting a very sore arm. And that was using eucalyptus oil and in the end cutting compound and polish. And that was for only the left rear door.

Two of my front ones are kind of loose and I'm thinking of replacing them too now. Was it as hard as you say it is to change them over?

well the glue or tape needs to be strong stuff to hold them on thats why its so hard to get it off.

Fair enough, will give it a try when I've got the time to go get some.

I took these door strips off of my TE Advance a while back. If you're careful and dont go yanking them they shoudnt bend or break. The extra glue cleaned up a treat with Prepwash (Eucalyptus Oil would be p*ss weak) and no damage to the paint. Stuck them back on with Selleys Multi Bond, no problem.
P.S. Then my car got ripped off.

it's called eurathane or something (don't quote me on the spelling) - It's definetly not your usual double sided tape - If i'm not mistaken it's the same stuff they stick the badges on with.
If you can get the strips off without destroying them and you want to try and stick them back on - a panel beater should be able to throw some of the right sticky stuff your way.
If it's just colour coding you want - check with a reputable spray shop but I'm pretty sure they'll spray em on the car.

If you remove them you are likely to bend them which is what stops them adhering later, as it is no longer perfectly flat. You could always try the fishing line trick to CUT them off, but then make sure you clean both surfaces properly.... When regluing them on you should tape it on with a fat strip of duct tape for 24 hours not opening or closing the door so the glue cures.

mmmm......
I'm able to get a new set from mitsi's for $72.00, so the tape is already on them. I was advised to have them painted while they are off that way the paint covers the underside making it less resistant to chipping on the edges.
So how do you go about removing them? Very carefully I suppose, but can you use a solvent or something similar to loosen the glue???

DO IT YOURSELF
Ive taken the strips off in like 10 seconds without it breaking! and thats no lie
I am doing mine this weekend.
Get the right colour of spray paint from anywhere, and i used glue that cost $2.50 for a tube and it worked beautifully!
When you apply a glue, let it wait for a few minutes before puttin the strip back on the door
Worked for me

Easy to say - I take it you don't have a "metallic" paint

I didn't realise until I saw other execs going round with the grey strips.

i was actually recommended by my panel beater to buy the strips, then get them painted and mounted. cos it wont last as long otherwise.
