Hi,

I am currently in the process of replacing the heater core in my sister's TL Magna sedan - a monumental task, but have ripped it all out and successfully removed the heater core.

I had an accident though. To take the dashboard off though, I had to take the gear knob off the top of the automatic transmission gear stick, which exposed a thin plastic rod which pushes down into the gear stick when you press the button to change gears. I dropped the dashboard onto the top of this and in a split second, it was snapped.

Does anyone know what this part is called, whether it can be separated from the gearstick mechanism and where I could purchase a replacement?

Most likely it'll be a trip to the wreckers. When my tiptronic switches failed twice in my TW each time it was an entire selector assembly which was ordered and quite expensive I believe. I was told the switches could not be ordered on their own so you might be out of luck with that bit. You can only try Mitsubishi but there's a wrecker called" lancercity "(QLD) on EBay which seems to have some good stock of the magnas. Hopefully you'll find something more local to you though.

I made the same mistake when pulling the console from my TJ AWD. What made it worse was the wreckers here were asking $200 for a 2nd hand assembly. I jumped the fence that night and helped myself from a TL, it took awhile but I managed to pull that little plastic rod from the assembly. I don't know what the part is called but I can tell you that the part can be seperated. Be warned though, it's a pain in the arse to put back together, do at your own risk.

Thanks very much for your responses.

I contacted "Lancercity" and he has one he can post to me.
