Today I made for you metal plates. This is done using the carbon laser in a nitrogen environment.
It is 2 mm stainless steel. While they are terrible and ugly. But don't worry.
The next step polishing machine.
So I need to know within 2-3 days. Who wants to polished, who wants to matt. Define please. http://s58.radikal.ru/i162/1112/ec/80ae8b724340.jpg

Wouldn't be too hard to do this locally i wouldn't think..
get a jpeg of the actual "380 GT" text , and get it water jetted into the steel.
a water jet will cut it directly into the factory plastic kick panels :)

Laser 3D are in Gillman im pretty sure, they may be able to do it straight into the panels? Or into metal. Then just need to look for backlighting... laser3d.com.au

Wherever you want. But ultimately to keep coolness, you'd tap it off the door trigger which is close by.
So the list is
380 GT
VERADA
MAGNA
380 VRX
380 GT
Mitsubishi
Mitsbuishi GT
Mitsubishi 380
Maybe keep it simpler if cost's are added for different designs...
I.e.
VERADA
MAGNA
MITSUBISHI 380

i have emailed a local company that was mentioned on the first page of the thread,so we will see how i go...will keep you informed...
If you look close enough at the photos,it looks as if it is actually TWO pieces...a metal/alloy top piece and an opaque plastic piece for the bottom,so it looks as if you would have to cut a hole in your scuff plate a glue the two panels together...

sparky, the 380 as sold and built in australia was only sold in australia. else where they have american built galants except the grunder which is assembled in whichever asian country its sold in -republic of china and phillipines. so no, no export 380s except new zealand but that doesnt count!

Hi Michael,
This quote was for the "Galant" wording only.
Our software that does the quoting uses the cad data to work out the cutting time on our machines so each stencil would vary a little in price depending on the size and length of the wording.
If you were able to supply a cad file of each design then we could work out the pricing for each design.
The cad system we use is AutoCAD and we use either DXF or DWG format files.
Can some one help me out here on explaining this...???
Still following this up,initial pricing seems fair, but will need lots of orders to make this work, and im talking MINIMUM of 10 for EACH different set of plates,
So ifyou want " 380 GT" or 'MAGNA " or whatever ,to make it viable, then i need the numbers,so bear this in mind before you go off sprouting a whole set of different types of plates.
At the end of the day,i will work on what is most popular and take it from there....early days...

Are you able to get a copy of the original drawings? I have ProDesktop on my computer, need to re-teach myself how to use it though, and im thinking about doing some extra night study at TAFE including CAD while im still an apprentice to try and get some money off the total cost. I can try to change the shapes for the wording, but im not sure if they want it done all the way up to the tool path stage.

Ok.. Are you getting them cut in Russia too or here in Adelaide? I'll bring a tape measure to the next magna meet and see if i can do some stuff in sheet brushed stainless. Im guessing its a hole cut in the plastic trim with metal glued on the top, white plastic glued on the bottom, and an LED strip under the whole lot? How much room is there between the plastic trim piece and the metal car frame?

CAD = Computer Aided Drafting, AutoCAD is a computer program used to digitally draw up designs etc., used by engineers and stuff.

cheers guys,if you both come out to next weeks meet,we can get together and talk about it,and, yes,im thinking of getting them cut here in Adelaide.
Better yet, i have Tafe next week, and while i doubt ill be able to do enough for everyone, if someone has a 380 up near golden grove or elizabeth and wants to take the scuff panel off and get some measurements with me, i think tafe have a cnc plasma cutter, and i think there may be some scraps of brushed stainless left at work.

20-07-2010, 09:42 PM
what measurements do you need.....can take a few photos and put measurements in ..????
Need to know what size you want the plate, and a rough idea of how the edges line up (im hoping its an almost flat surface), and if its possible to work out how much room there is underneath for LED's to go in, and if you have a font similar to the writing you want, itallics or not, etc.

I'm going to have a go at making some of these.. not in a rush though but I'll let you know how I go.
Im doing 2D CAD/CAM this week at tafe, hopefully we can play on the laser cutter and not just the CNC mill. Can anyone post pics up of lettering styles they want? Magna/verada/amc/territory/mitsi logos etc, I'll try and get some drawn up, remember that with letters like A, O, P, etc, it will cut out the inside of the letter, so the A's will have to be like the ones in the above GALANT examples, or the middle pieces will have to be kept and stuck on neatly otherwise it might look silly.
Im pretty sure I've seen magna badges that have the same lettering as the galant stuff, but I cant find them on google images.
Also, if anyone in SA can get cheap skylight material, or has any lying around, let me know, I think a flat cutout section from the square wave type skylights that go in verandahs etc would work well for the opaque underneath part.
-e.g. this http://www.metaldeck.com/fiberglass/rpanel.htm but im sure there are plastic ones instead of fiberglass that would give better light transmission? Fiberglass may have that hairy look from the fibers up close.

380 GT 380 VRX i reckon style shouldnt matter much, cause if you can get this done,it will look awesome regardless
Ive cropped some close-ups from badges in the rear view shots in Annese's ride thread ( http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73710&page=1 ), If someone could post some close up, front on shots of the MAGNA, VRX, and if there is a VERADA in the same font, I think off TJ/KJ to make it a little easier to copy, and a close up of the rear badges on the 380 GT/VRX ? Untill then ill keep searching members rides threads...

Do you want me to do a VRX from the 380 or is the one above enough?
The more high res, zoomed in lettering from various badges the better, and ill print them A4 and measure the angles, lengths, radiusses etc from there to copy them as best as I can.
1st gen ???
2nd gen 30 x 520 front (TR)
2nd gen 30 x 300 rear (TR)
3rd gen 30 x 600 front (KH)
3rd gen 30 x 270-300 rear (KH)
380 30 x 450-500 front
380 30 x 150 rear (flat)
380 30 x 300-350 (curved)
territory 30x340 (inserts)
Is there any difference in the sill sizes between the 3rd gens e.g. TH-TJ-TL? And if anyone has some 1st gen measurements or wants to double-check my measurements as most of them were done in the dark and/or rain with a 150mm ruler and a thumb... Looking for a comfortable fit in a flat space, but may be able to curve them in the 380 rears as its only a short flat area... Otherwise just "380" should fit neatly in the short spot.
Are you able to get a copy of the original drawings?
ummm...nope..guys in RUSSIA of all places lol
No copy of the drawings at all? Im sure russian numbers will still convert into regular numbers? Or does he sell them as a buisiness and doesnt want to give away the files for anyone else to load up? It would be good to check the sizes im trying against one that is known to work.

Very cool stuff. if this manages to go ahead i will be strongly interested in a set :D If you do them in magna or vr-x or somethin of that genre.
Also if your trying to gauge interest in these might be an idea to post it in a general forum somewhere coz i only managed to stumble on this accidently while looking for your other magna thread and other people who might not go through the 380 forums may be unaware of this. Just a suggestion

Apparently the laser should be able to cut through the door sills themselves no worries, for a neat flush fit. I'll try to build as many jigs as I can to make the process as fast as possible for the actual paid machining time. Would people prefer the "stripes" of the stainless steel to go lengthways like in the pics, or short ways across the strip, diagonal?
Also still after pictures of a mix of badges to turn into logos.

Hi! 6 pairs of plates will be worth 510 USD (85 USD per pair).
Postal item from Russia to Australia is 83 USD (EMS Post Russia).
Term of delivery of 6 - 15 days. You can pay with PayPal. Now pay nothing.
At first I make a plate.
Another question. ??
You need all the plates matt? Or someone wants to polished?
Now it is available technology matte polishing. This is done using the little glass balls on a polishing machine. The surface is very beautiful.

Guys, I want to clarify. I only do the plate. Leds and installation of you make. Plastic plate smaller in size than the metal. Plate is mounted with the help of glue. On the same level with the door sill. Not terrible, if it is not carefully. This place closes a metal plate. I think you understood my English. In the near future I will try to make a video.

Well plain "380" ones are looking unlikely, and mine is sort of a VRX faker anyway (rims & spoiler), so I might as well stick my hand up for a VRX set.
Unless there are strenuous objections from real VRX owners!
Of course Michael I'll be calling on your expertise for wiring up the LEDs.

Dont rule it out just yet KJ,I have asked him to do a generic one for the rest of the 380 range. If we did every model ,there would be too many.So for all you ES,SX,LS,Plantinum owners out there ,you havent been forgotten.
If the demand is there,i will ask that a sill plate like this is made up.
" :mits: 380 :mits: ".....This style would look quite dramatic actually ,as you could make the Mitsi Diamonds light up Red and the 380 light up blue and that would match the dash perfectly.

Okay,as you can see from the photo below, the alloy plate sits on top of your existing sill plate.
http://s52.radikal.ru/i135/1007/f9/9fa989a9ad65.jpg
Look closely at the photos and you will see the the kit comes in two parts, the top metal plate and the lower plastic bit(not sure what he uses.)So,the raised letters on the plastic fit flush into the metal plate.
In order for this to happen, you need to trim/cut your existing sill(or get a spare set from the wreckers)to sandwich the two pieces together between the cut out you have made in your sill.
http://s45.radikal.ru/i107/1007/f9/ede7b3fef40a.jpg
Seen from below is the plate glued into position.
http://s55.radikal.ru/i149/1006/f8/28da883c1ee3.jpg
For the lighting, buy whatever color led strip you want to the required length and place it below the sill.
To power this, simply tap into your interior light in the roof.

I wrote earlier, a post office called price-for-weight. 0 - 1.5 kg worth$83, 1.5- 3 kg worth$119. I did 6 sets. 3 GT and 3 WRX as you requested. The weight of the 6 sets of exceeded 1.5 kg, but less than 3 kg. I can send 3 sets. Their weight will be less than 1.5 kg. However, I called the amount for 1 set of 100$. Guys, I want to say. I understand that someone wants to Verada, someone Magna, EX AND SX, WRX.....bla, bla, bla. There are no problems. You can do any of the inscription. However, there is a condition, you have to do 5 sets in 1 of the order. For example, let it be 1 Verada, 1 Magna, 1 380 GT, 1 mitsubishi380, 1 any other inscription. You understand me? 1 order - five sets. Firstly, it is beneficial for you, I give a discount of$15 postage costs are lower. The main thing is convenient for me. I will explain. The equipment on which it is done is open 24 hours a day. This military production (I'm not kidding). Migrating to 1 kit is expensive. 5 sets of this is normal. All connection I ask through Michael. Thank You...

Hi Mike! No,nothing has been done. Just a person who performs this operation at the factory, in the hospital. So you have to wait when he was cured of the disease. I'm sorry and I apologize for the wait.

Sorry, this has dragged on too long, I have to bail out. We have a baby due any day so no time to try and get this done now.

sigh..this thing was going to be nuts ,but i haven't heard from the guy in ages.
Im going to pm him and see if we can just buy the plates off him and do our own plastic inserts .
There was some problem with who ever actually did the plates being sick, probably dead now,and not saving the files .
I still have drawings for mine but have nothing sorted out for the backing or lighting...
