Hi guys,

I've just had my 380 windows tinted by Tint-a-Car and went for the midnight express option, which I think a number of other 380 owners on this site have done.

I just have a question about the rear window, and specifically the area I think they call the dot matrix part, which is at the top of the rear window.

At present they have tinted over that area, and you can notice some gaps, bubbles, etc, but they told me it just needed a few days to dry. I've been doing some reading on the net, and apparently cars that have the dot matrix stuff on the rear window normally causes issues when tinting, and some people say it will never be perfect.

I just was wondering how other 380 owners went when they had their rear windows tinted, any issues like this?

Cheers,
Zolt

Not specific to a 380, but just window tinting in general...
I'd leave it for a few days to 'dry' as they said. A lot of the small bubbles and spots will disappear.
Also, most places won't listen and won't touch it until after this period has ended anyway.
Then if you're still not happy after the 'few days to dry', then take it back.

i have this same issue with my tint from solar tint. And i wasn't happy with my tint so i took it back again and made him re do the whole car and go a shade darker. Then one morning i needed the rear demister and noticed that 3 demister bars were not working as he ripped them off slightly when removing the tint. I called him to complain he didn't wanna hear it and tried blaming me for complaining. Quick abusive phone call to head office soon had him calling me back apologising and asked what i wanted done i said a new genuine rear screen from mitsu that was already on its way from SA and would be landing in sydney the next morning for about 470. Then another 100 to have it fitted then he had to re do the new back screen to which i said you can actually do the whole car again while you have it to which he very un willingly agreed to. Then told me to never come back and see him cause i cost him too much money for a standard window tint which was around 300 i think. I agreed and reminded him of the life time warranty he supplied and assured him id be back.

As for the painted dots on the rear of the screen mines pretty much stuck all the way round except for the top left corner but its very minimal everywhere else seems fine. Give it a few days just dont ask them to re do the job or you may go through what i did lol

lol.... did you originally get them to redo it because of the painted dots problem on the rear window, or just because you weren't happy in general?

the job was good just one little bubble that didn't dry out on the small window on the back door so i made him do it all again instead of just fixing that one small window. God dam ppl must really hate me at times, ah well they should do the job right the first time, hope it all goes well with your car mate. Need some pics of the tint now :)

i didnt mind paying more at all seeing as he tinted my car 3 times which if he charged me would have been 900 plus 470 for my new rear window plus 100 for fitting. Lol but it was something that i would have loved avoiding. My tint along the top is fine now mate its hard for it to stick that it cause its painted if mine gives me drama's ill be paying mr solar tint another unfriendly visit.

I have the same tint.
Took a week to dry and maybe longer with this cold weather. I also had a stale musty smell for a couple of weeks which went when all dried out. No issues at all anywhere.

ah ok, and they tinted over the dot matrix area on the rear window? I was reading some forums where people were saying some tinting places cut the tint and don't apply it on the dotted area...

Not sure what percentage it is. When I booked the car in, the person on the phone said it was the darkest legal tint they offer.

Now I think I've spotted a little bit of crap or some shit on the back window that is stuck under the tint... hmmm

Must be 35%... I think thats the darkest legal.

Something under the tint, was there old tint that they had to remove and have perhaps left some behind?

Nah no previous tint. I'm a bit anal retentive, but I wouldn't expect there to be any blemishes under the tint. I know some of the smaller bubbles need time to dry, but if there is something stuck under it, then I might take it back. Then again, I don't want them ripping off my demister lol
