Hey,
Just noticed recently that sometimes after driving and turning the ignition off in my car im getting a whirring sound coming from the back of the car for a couple of seconds followed by a clicking sound coming from behind the passenger side air vent, am i right in assuming its the fuel pump? I thought it was my amp at first but the click behind the air vent stops the whirring sound, please help im stumped.
Cheers.

Almost sounds like an electric antenna retracting & the gears jumping a couple of teeth once it bottoms out.. Not familiar with 2nd gens tho sorry!
Sounds about right to me. Sit in the car with the car not running but turn it to "on" and then turn the radio on with the sound down low, you should hear it whirr on the way up. Then turn off the car and hear it whirr on the way down. The ariel wont go up if the head unit is set to play CDs.
My 3rd gen has recently developed a few clunks on the way down.

Meph, if they start to develop a clunk or 2 try giving the aerial itself a bit of a clean with some CRC or WD40.. sounds like it may not be fully extending. Worked for mine anyway!
Any luck wombat?

see if its when your aircon is off/on, i've noticed similar sounds and think its the aircon maybe?

My car does this wierd noise when its low on fuel. It whines for a while at the back (fuel pump) then it dies. And the click is just a relay. i think its like pumping gas back into the tank i dono lol. doesnt do anything dw about it ;)

If its the gen 2 fuel pump, try lifting the base of the back seat up. If it makes the noise again, but its a lot louder, then you know its the fuel pump. Strange though, the pump is usually dead quiet. Maybe you are low on fuel, what's the fuel level like when it does the noise? The relay behind the dash/glovebox clicking is normal.

I have that.... it's the idle speed control motor whirring to it's preset for start..
To check open your bonnet... get close to the throttle body while someone turns the car off....
Completely normal.... actually a good sign as it's still working!!
