Hey all,

I have this strange noise, kind of dragging/bearing noise whenever I go shift from Park/Neutral into Drive or Reverse. Still drives fine, but I thought I'd put it to the masses to see if anyone has had similar noise or what they think it might be.

Pardon the slow cranking, has sat there a week untouched. Used my old Sony digicam as its good at picking up automotive/mechanical noises. Auto fluid is where it should be, and as above it drives normal - noise doesnt get louder with speed etc.

Thanks in advance to any and all replies.

(Noise starts after 32 second mark)

Does this sound also appear in park when the A/C is switched on? - reason is that a bad compressor can cause that or bad idler pulley or alt bearings at certain revs. Also you car seems to be idling pretty high yet the car body doesn't appear to move/jump in the video when you select D or R?

Yeah it is idling high, I will investigate it tomorrow. . When I bought it it made a noise inbetween the noises it makes in these videos - half the racket "the noise" makes, but constant at idle - which I put down to a bad idler pulley, but that noise has gone (and at the time would disappear if you switched A/C on) and is now replaced with this noise in Drive or Reverse. I guess I have to do the old hosepipe stethoscope to get a better idea where its coming from.

Fixed the idle the other day by adjusting the screw, ECU did not force the higher idle again and all is well on that front (ISC is stepping down as it should), which funnily enough also got rid of the noise for now.

I'm thinking that RPM might be showing loose hyd tensioner? Will have to pop the covers and take a peek.

Got my brakes done today, all disks machined, new RDA pads and a wheel alignment while I was at it. Much better brake feel now, back ones were (as I already knew) very down on pad material - pics tomorrow!
