G'day guys,
Got a letter from Mitsubishi the other day reminding me that now the car is 3 years old it needs to go in for a check to warrant the extra 2 years on the warranty....When I purchased this car it came with the 5 year warranty from the date I purchased it like some of you on here.
Just wondering if I should ignore it, thinking its just a mandatory thing on their computers, or if Mitsubishi aren't aware which cars came with the whole 5 year warranty for the second owner and which ones didn't?
Cheers,
Mikey

Read your warranty book. All mitsu's are sold with a 3 year warranty. You need to have the vehicle serviced at your mitsu dealer between 30 and 36 months. If you do this, they reward you by extending your warranty a further 2 years bumper to bumper and, provided you are the original owner, they will extend a further 5 years on the powertrain (10 years total)

That is almost right - you don't need the vehicle serviced by a mitsu dealer. All you need to do is present the vehicle for inspection at a dealer and they will extend the warranty to 5 years.

checked my book just before, and it says present the vehicle for inspection during that particular service, that would indicate to me you need to have the vehicle serviced there for them to inspect it. I know dealer servicing is always overpriced, over rated, and they generally don't do most of what you ask them to, considering its only one dealer service in my cars entire life, doesn't bother me that much. I'd just pay the extra that way I know I'm covered.

I'm in the same boat. I had assumed that the 5 year diamond advantage "pre-owned 5 year/balance of 130,000km " is separate toi the original 3 plus 2 warranty. To be safe I suppose I should ring my selling dealership but I'm thinking I have a different time frame and that I have simply got the letter as a standard mailout to a second listed owner. In my case I bought in January 2009 with 39,000km on the odo and to be safe I got the 45,000 service done in August 2009 when it clocked 44750KM. I have warranty till late January 2014. My warranty certicate stapled to the inside front cover of the warranty service booklet states that it is addition to the original warranty provided as detailed in the warranty booklet and is a 5 year warranty from 20 January 2009 limited to the balance of 130,000Km

I took the 380 in & they just entered the details in the computer & all was good, they didn't even look at it.
I got the Pajero warranty extended while it was getting serviced.

Go and read the book again - you are not correct. The warranty book does not say that.

cbf right now, going on holidays in the morning and the book is back in the car. When i get back ill scan it for you. Unless you just happen to have a service book for a MY10 lancer lying around and wish to prove yourself wrong.

You must be someone who can't admit a mistake. How is a MY10 lancer warranty book relevant if we are in the 380 section.
I own a 380. I have a 380 warranty book in front of me now. The words are pretty clear about what the owner needs to do to extend the warranty and it doesn't require a service.
So you don't need to scan anything from some Lancer book - but thanks for the offer.

Last time i checked they all had the same warranty... but hey, what would i know? im just some guy, sitting at a keyboard, with a mis-printed book infront of me. Perhaps I should ring mitsubishi and let them know that you have all the correct warranty information and that the warranty book i received with my car is wrong.
The point i was making is simple, dont tell me that I am wrong, when you havent read the book infront of me. I have no reason to lie.

This is from the Mitsubishi website under warranty. Suggest you read it carefully. There is zero obligation to have the vehicle serviced by a Mitsubishi dealer. You are wrong - and it is not about lying. You just made a mistake - it really isn't a big deal. I just want people reading the forum to receive correct advice....
So everything is cool - if you want extended warranty just follow the instructions below and get the car serviced wherever you want.
EXTENDED WARRANTY
(5 years from purchase or 130,000km)
Provided that:
• the Vehicle has not been driven a distance exceeding 130,000 kilometres;
• the Vehicle has been serviced in accordance with the Service Schedules set out in this Manual at the specified servicing
intervals during the Initial Warranty period ; and
• the owner notifies MMAL of the owner’s intention to qualify for the Extended Warranty by completing the Extended Warranty
Registration Validation section set out in this Manual and presenting the Vehicle with the Service and Warranty Book at an
Authorised Mitsubishi Service Centre at some time during the final 6 months of the Initial Warranty,
MMAL will extend the Initial Warranty for the period commencing upon the expiry of the Initial Warranty and expiring 24 months
(2 years) later, or until the Vehicle has been driven a distance exceeding 130,000 kilometres in total (whichever occurs first)
(“Extended Warranty”). The extended Warranty is subject to the Vehicle continuing to be serviced in accordance with the
Service Schedules set out in this Manual at the specified servicing intervals for the duration of the Extended Warranty.
The Extended Warranty does not apply to accessories or equipment manufactured or supplied by MMAL or to any items
excluded from the scope of the Initial Warranty.

Thats true Keith, but I have only owned the car for around 18 months. and I supposedly have a full 5 year warranty so I therefore shouldn't have this letter for another 18 months correct?

Did you buy the car new? If not you will find that the full 5 years war you have is part balance of new car warranty and part dealership extended warranty.

No no, this is a Mitsubishi backed 5 year warranty. Apparently it was a scoop buy hence the lower price around the time I bought mine and was told many times that it was a full 5 year factor warranty, only the 10 year drivetrain warranty was non transferable. I declined the generous (HA) 3 year 175,000km warranty offered by Bartons holden where I bought it from.
I thought other 380 owners on the site would have this when they bought their cars?
Probably just best to give a mitsubishi dealer a ring, not that the ones in my area have ever known anything I've asked :facepalm

I had the 5 year mitsubishi warranty on the 380, runs out later this year. I then have an 3 years dealer warranty after the factory warranty runs out.

Okay so my 3yr/130,000km warranty runs out on 10/4/2011. My next service is at 120,000km or 28/3/2011 (whichever comes first, I'm now on 110,000km). So at this service I present my extended warranty registration validation, get it stamped and I'm good for another 10,000km? Rather than it ending on 10/4/2011?
I have the same scoop buy vehicle too.
Bought in March 09 with the full 5 year warranty from my date of purchase.
One would assume 3 years after that I would have to present the vehicle for the extended warranty stamp of approval (ala March 2012)
Can anyone clarify with MMAL ?
(If not, I'll have to present the vehicle before its 3 year birthday in Nov 2010 (this year)) - no big deal

Just remember guys, we have the best warranty in the business IMHO.
My brother in law bought a new Calais and it will be out of warranty by nearly 2 years before his 380...LOL
Has anyone questioned Mitsubishi about the extra year's worth of warranty that was supposedly added to 380's after they announced production would cease? We're apparently entitled to a 6 year/130000km warranty.
Quoting http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/ArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleId=48197:
In announcing the plant closure Mitsubishi also said it will increase the new-car warranty on 380s from an industry-leading five years to six years.
"All of our models will continue to be fully supported by the Mitsubishi dealer network, just like any other superseded models," says Mitsubishi Australia president and CEO Rob McEniry, who also said the 380 "will receive an extension of 12 months to the warranty".

Wow first I have heard of this. I found another article that says something similar and it says it applies to all 380s regardless of when made!

If you drive a Mitsubishi, there is no reason to panic. The company isn't going anywhere. Mitsubishi has extended the warranty of the 380 from five years to six - whether you already own one or are about to buy.
